Rental fees far outweigh what the actual box would cost...

The past few months have seen a growing number of lawsuits against cable companies by consumers (and lawyers, who apparently smell blood) for being forced to rent cable boxes. While it's true these folks could just go get CableCARDs, they argue they should be able to purchase the actual Comcast box (or something similar) from retail outlets. The Consumerist notes that yet another one of these suits has surfaced. "The rental fees paid by each customer for the set-top box exceed its cost to Comcast or what the set-top box would sell for on the open market," attorneys for San Francisco resident Lucas Mays claim in the latest suit.
