New network upgrades available in select areas...

Though we alerted you last week that Windstream was now offering 12Mbps ADSL2+ , the company made it official today with a press release. "Windstream experienced a four-fold increase in Internet usage in 2007 as our broadband customer base grew 28 percent year-over-year," says a company rep. "This network upgrade allows us to offer faster speeds at greater distances, enabling customers to accomplish more in less time through a dedicated Internet connection at a great value." The 12Mbps/1Mbps tier is $19.99 for the first six months, and $45 per month after that (though some of our users in less competitive markets are being quoted prices $5 higher).

quote:

Broadband 12 Mbps$19.99 per month
Download Max. Speed of 12.0 Mbps, Upload Max Speed of 768 Kbps.
Broadband 6 Mbps$19.99 per month
Download Max. Speed of 6.0 Mbps, Upload Max Speed of 384 Kbps.
Broadband 3 Mbps$19.99 per month
Download Max. Speed of 3.0 Mbps, Upload Max Speed of 384 Kbps.
Broadband 1.5 Mbps$19.99 per month
Download Max. Speed of 1.5 Mbps, Upload Max Speed of 384 Kbps.
Pricing good for first 6 months and requires qualifying services. After six months, current list price applies.

That's what I got for a town around here. 384 Kbps for everything else?! I find that pathetic.
If I was serviced by them I would go with them if

A: They listed the prices AFTER the 6 month intro
B: 6Mbps had an upload of at least 1Mbps or 12Mbps had 2Mbps.

In Fredericktown PA 15333, I'm Stuck with only 3MB

Its a shame as I can see the CO, 724-377-xxxx, from my front porch and I'm still limited to the 3MB service I've had for five years now.

Come on Windstream show me some speed. I'd go $50/month.

Re: Come on Verizon

It's the price of FiOS, I suppose... Areas that aren't likely to get FiOS or upgrades by Verizon should just hope that they're sold off soon, I guess...

Don't worry..

...none of you folks are missing anything. I called to upgrade my speed last Monday, and I am still waiting for it. Billing Dept says the upgrade is done. Indian tech support has no idea what is going on. Meanwhile even my old non-ADSL2+ capable modem still syncs fine, so I clearly have not been put on an ADSL2+ pin. Both sync at my previous 7200 kbps.

Also, not one single person has been able to post a speed test in the WS forum of the new 12mb speeds.

Re: Don't worry..

Most ADSL2+ equipment is able to do multiple profiles based on hardware. That being if an ADSL modem/card is present it'll run at an ADSL speed profile. If ADSL2 modem/card it'll run as an ADSL2 profile. If you're not getting it with an ADSL2+ modem then it could possibly be just a mistake in the cards set or provisioned.

Thank you, I can accept that answer, but it still doesn't explain much. It is more info than anyone at WS has been able to give me

speed upgrades

I just upgraded my CABLE hi-speed connect from 3Mb to 5Mb ($44 to $50). I happened to be in the area of the office so the upgrade was made there. By the time I got home (10 minutes) it was up and running with maximum speeds. The DSL/Phone addicts really need to get 'out-a-box'.
