WinXP Service Pack 2 and the 5100b modem (old news - 09:48PM Wednesday Sep 22 2004)
As noted in this article... » /postlist/6377···itemarkWhat seems to be happening is since MSFT XP service pack 2 was implemented the Efficient 5100b's may interrupt your connection due to the 5100b not recieving a response from your computer.. Right now there is not a patch to fix this problem but there is a couple of temporary solutions.. • Bridge the modem via the » 192.168.0.1 interface and let your computer do the connection • Bridge the modem via the » 192.168.0.1 interface and let a 3rd party router like a linksys or a netgear router handle the connection. • Select a different modem (if you possess one). An acceptable model could be a Efficient 5600, or Efficient 5660. • Select a bridged modem such as a 5100a, 5360, 5260, and use a combination router listed in option 2 • Use a router/modem combination such as a 2wire 1000SW, Cayman/netopia router, Efficient 5861, and others that are ADSL capable and can be configured for RFC 1483 with a VP:0/VC:35 If you have other solutions or combinations you know is working for your setup please post as well as any other information that might be needed.

Set the PC static to 192.168.0.64, 255.255.255.0 with a gateway of 192.168.0.1. Specify the DNS appropriate for the area.
This should help prevent the PPPoE timeout on the modem.

| New update 03/30/05 Some customers that also use different operating systems (Win2k, WinNT, Win98SE, WinME, Win95) and install a seperate firewall such as Norton Internet Security (NIS), Mcafee firewall, or Zonealarm, may also experience this problem. If this does happen you can do what is suggested, or allow the packet from your modem through your firewall software. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. said by David Different method (untested) If this works, please confirm by post a reply to this message Someone in this center advised that if you access the interface at »192.168.0.1 in the advanced->connection settings menu and setting the modem to "Always attempt to connect" this also alleviates the problem as well. However, as of this message this is untested and unconfirmed.. ]
This has been tested by many on the site and this appears to work as well. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. Koetting Ford, Granite City, illinois... YOU'RE FIRED!!
