By Ina Fried, and Tom KrazitHow does Windows Vista love thy computer? Let it count the ways. Microsoft is building into the new operating system a tool that will rate a PC based on how well it is running and on how much it can take advantage of Vista's capabilities. Read more at news.zdnet.com

Hell I'm gonna pass on Vista permanently, it's a DRM & Uncle Sam lovers dream screw that shit. My XP will stay on my comp till it dies or Linux finally comes out with a good friendly OS or Google finally gets it OS out. -- Stec-Net Online Community!

| I will... download Vista off BT and run it on a separate computer just to play with it...
...
I wasn't joking. But I am fine with my customized XP SP2 as my regular OS on my main computer. -- defcon888@gmail.com send me spam!

| Bloat I saw a post somewhere that showed Vista was using around 800mb of memory just sitting there, not running any programs. That's obscene! In some ways, Windows is such a terrific OS. I just don't understand why, with Microsoft, security & simplicity always seem to take a back seat to bloat & eye candy. Too bad. | |

Considering all the fancy eye candy that Vista has available to use, why bother? I'm sure one can turn all that off, but MS seems to stress style rather than performance.

| Re: Bloat Yep. Here's a bold prediction for you--- Vista will be the beginning of the end for Mr. Softee! 15, 20 years from now, people will say "remember Windows?" the same way we now say "remember 8-track players?" (of course, I also predicted VHS would never catch on. "Betamax is the way to go, my friends!") | |

| Wait a minute... Isn't there going to be 6-8 different versions of Vista? Isn't the Beta that is currently being run the biggest one with all the bells and whistles?
Then what's all the whining about? I'm fairly certain most semi-current computers will run at least the generic version well. If ya don't need Aero and all the fluff... don't get that one!
I'm going to get it, for my newer laptop at least.
YMMV. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera

| 8 versions I think there are 8 different versions, I haven't looked recently but I believe its... Starter, Home Basic, Home Basic N, Home Premium, Business, Business N, Enterprise, Ultimate
I'm skipping this one too, microsoft continues to put out less functional operating systems every release. This version is supposed to restrict the usage of capture cards if it doesn't support Vista's encryption technology then it simply will not function. monitors that support vista's output aren't even out yet. -- - paranoidxe (txtfiles.org)
