tags: Politics · municipalA few days ago, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
announced plans in the works for a free WiFi system which would cover the nearly 500 square miles which make up the Los Angeles area.
Examiner.com reports that the same day, San Francisco Supervisor Jake McGoldrick withdrew, perhaps temporarily, his
proposed nonbinding resolution to study the feasibility of a city-owned Wi-Fi system up in Northern California. The article takes an interesting look at what this means for the larger political picture in California, explaining that both Villaraigosa and McGoldrick rival San Franciscos Mayor Newsom for the 2010 Democratic governor nomination. The article says that Villaraigosa tacitly pays Newsom a compliment by going the public-private partnership route with the LA plan and may get the hand up in the end if the much-larger city is able to get their WiFi system up and running before the
the delayed San Francisco plan is in place.
