Westell Technologies Inc. on Monday announced a "new operating strategy" under which the maker of broadband telecommunications access products said it will outsource to foreign contractors production work currently being performed at its Aurora facility, a move that will cost about 300 Chicago-area workers their jobs.

Westell disclosed the job-elimination plan as it reported lower sales and profits for the fiscal fourth quarter ended March 31.
