Now what? | |

On the other hand, are they now going to have people who don't have computers paying for wireless internet? | |

| Microsoft update kills ZoneAlarm So *that's* what happened!
I got a call last night from my in-laws about how their computer wouldn't get online after my father-in-law updated Firefox. It turned out that ZoneAlarm was set to High. When I set it to Medium, all was well.
However, as I was heading to my in-laws' house, I got a call from my wife's grandmother saying that her computer wouldn't connect. This seemed trickier as ZoneAlarm wasn't in the system tray. Then, I realized that ZoneAlarm's service was loaded, but the tray icon wasn't. So I loaded the GUI for ZoneAlarm and sure enough it was set to High. Setting it to Medium restored her connectivity.
It had been awhile since I used ZoneAlarm, so I couldn't remember off-hand the correct Internet setting and just assumed that some rogue ZoneAlarm update had changed some settings. With the news that a Microsoft Update messed things up, it all makes more sense. Here's hoping that a fix gets released by Microsoft or ZoneAlarm soon. -- -Jason Levine Support a children's charity.
