| Sorry, I'm not sure what the OP is saying, but you clearly can NOT link your home phone or business plan account to the iPhone account.. even according to the app, and the 100 reviewers of the app already, you HAVE to create a new account and you pre-pay the service.
The way I see it, the Vonage app is a waste of time.. the cost to up minutes on the iPhone is FAR cheaper than having to buy minutes through Vonage AND use my ATT minutes as well..
This app is a complete failure.

This app is a complete failure. 1) you have to create a NEW Vonage mobile account
2) THE ACCOUNT IS LINKED TO YOUR VONAGE NUMBER
3) You only need to use pre-paid if you do not have a vonage account
4) International is billed per minute to your vonage account - by end of year the world plan will be in effect for vonage mobile
5) you are only using carrier minutes when on the carrier network - wifi does not consume carrier minutes - if you have a JB phone - you can install 3gUnrestrictor and not use carrier minutes.
6) even using carrier minutes and Vonage international rates - it is far cheaper way to call international than paying ATT

| Um, okay.. I don't know what I'm talking about.. neither does Vonage either... neither does the email they send out.. and neither does any other user that's used the use the app.
In your own instructions, you create a NEW vonage mobile account and then all the sudden you act like it's magically linked to your home account.. Guess what.. I did that.. guess what.. it's not linked.
If you want to come out the one that knows what he's talking about, you should try putting more detail step by step in your messages.. however, until then, you're not correct at all.
We've already established that 3G is counted against your pool of minutes so I'm not even sure why you're wasting time repeating that..
The question here is simply put.. can you use a home account - the answer is NO.. it states it on their website, it's states it in their email, and Vonage reps clearly state it on the phone.. but since you say it is, and you say I don't know what I'm talking about, I guess we should just believe you.
You also say that because the app says "iphone" and not phone number, that it's a bug and it needs to be re-downloaded.. now THAT'S funny!
Look, you can say I don't know what I'm talking about - as usual, but I'll put my skills and experience against yours any day.. I've worked in technology probably longer than most people on this site. Quite frankly, I don't care what you think about me.. you can just believe what you want.

| Re: Just downloaded Why is wifi relevant? To the best of my knowledge no one has got real VOIP running on a Blackberry (other than UMA which is coded into the firmware). All implementations I've found for Blackberry are either dialup VOIP or a callback system. In either implementation the data side only sends the connection information and the voice call is then sent over the voice channel. | |

They'll allow Vonage, but not Google Voice. Vonage, being only phone service that technically could use either data type to make and receive calls without the need for AT&T's minutes, instead chooses to bow down to AT&T's wishes. Google Voice, which cannot make or receive calls without an actual phone line, gets blacklisted because of the free SMS.

| Worthless app...doesn't work with your existing Vonage acct. I know they were probably up against AT&T on this issue but they should have at least included that in their description of the app. I just spent the few minutes setting up the app on my iphone just to discover (after apparently wasting my time) that there is no way to connect this to your current Vonage account. This is nothing more than a prepaid international calling card. | |

It looks like at least for now - you cannot access your Vonage web account information from the App - I agree that would be nice and I would hope to see that in the future.
At this point you have 2 accounts on the web interface - one for your Vonage account and one for the vonage mobile account. I would assume these will migrate together over time as well

| This app is quite crappy. Even if you use your Vonage phone number to create the account, you can only make calls using WiFi using your Vonage account. On 3G it is the same as using your iPhone, TALK ABOUT DUPLICATING FEATURES, showing your iPhone number in Caller ID.
The app nags you constantly for a low balance. The tones while dialing are so loud the entire world around you will know you are making a call. There is no "real" way to link this to your Vonage account so you could control your Vonage features from your iPhone.
Let's face it Vonage has finally jumped the shark. This app was hardly worth waiting for. Just use Skype or even Packet8 web app. This app does nothing that ten others do, most even better. Hardly worth waiting for, certainly not worth hyping the stock price. Garbage really.

@vonagenetworks.net
| DO NOT place your Vonage number into the app as suggested by a previous poster. It does not link the mobile account with your Vonage account. What it does is send calls to Vonage with the From number being your Vonage number. Vonage rates this call on both the mobile side of the business as well as the home side because it routed through the mobile services and the originating number is a Vonage number.
If you call an international number, this will subtract minutes against your mobile app and also charge your Vonage account for the International call therefore double billed. If your Vonage home account is the 500 minute plan, if you follow what this poster did, you will also be using up your 500 minute Vonage plan when making Domestic calls form the Vonage app.
Unless your not calling international numbers, are on the Vonage World Plan at home, have a Premium Unlimited plan, do not do this.
Configure your iPhone with your mobile number as it should be.
|
| Helping_Out
@vonagenetworks.net | Re: Vonage app - very cool - here are some details Another note. This will only occur if the call is placed over Wifi. You would not be able to place call over GSM network as the originating number would not be recognized by the cell carrier and will route call to a customer service recording.
