pnh102Reptiles Are Cuddly And PrettyPremium join:2002-05-02 Mount Airy, MD | Do The Math People For a single user, an iPhone 4S from Verizon will cost the following over a 2 year contract (before taxes and fees):
$200 + 24 * $90 = $2810
For a single user, an iPhone 4S from Virgin Mobile will cost over a 2 year contract:
$650 + 24 * $35 = $1490
I'm not shilling for Virgin but those numbers make them look like a very tempting option once my wife's contract with Verizon is up in December. Has anyone else used them? What are their hidden fees like? -- Romney 2012 - Put an adult in charge.

| Re: Do The Math People No hidden fees.
The only hassle for some is the speed isn't great and it solely runs on Sprint's network, so no roaming.
If those aren't an issue it can be an excellent service. -- »www.caryontech.com

If those aren't an issue it can be an excellent service. Based on their map, they have coverage where I live, work, and travel most often. I can deal with no coverage in other places. Given what's been said regarding hidden fees they are looking better and better each day. -- Romney 2012 - Put an adult in charge.

| | | | Re: Do The Math People said by guy80 :i think my 25 dollar plan ends up being about $27 with tax If you buy top up cards on the web from merchants that do not charge sales tax (like www.callingmart.com), then you would not even have to pay tax. I get $.25 for future purchases every time I buy my $25 top up card, so I actually end up paying $24.75 per month. | |

| | | I have been using VirginMobile for at least eight years and they do not have any hidden fees, just the state tax and the government mandated $1 rip-off. I have been very happy with the service and I do travel for business and my phone has not had the connection problems I read about with other carriers, but "your mileage may vary". | |

These entirely different networks can not be compared with the simple math example provided.
You should pay less; for less coverage, capacity, QOS, and customer service.
Each to their own. Value is subjective. I agree if you are getting less you should pay less. But with Verizon, we'll be paying more and getting less. To me, going from $30 a month for unlimited to $50 a month for 1GB and overages is getting a lot less. -- Romney 2012 - Put an adult in charge.

| RickPremium,MVM join:2001-02-06 Waterbury, CT | pnh..actually for the iphone it's 30/month so take another 120 off your VM total.
you need to have a cr. card on file though so they can bill it each month to get that price.
I would expect also that when the iphone 5 comes out you'll probably see the prices come down on the others.
The downside to going with the iphone is you won't get 4g. You'd need to get the htc EVO V 4g to get that (via sprint wimax).
Tough to beat VM's pricing now though.

While I think VZW's recent plan changes SUCK!
sprexhoostgin and espcially their MVNO's coverage SUCK!
VM coverage is 100% limited to SPRINT 1900PCS coverage. NO ROAMING PERIOD!
So you best compare all facets and calculate that in as well. -- 1311393600 - Back to Black.....Black....Black....

| | | There are no hidden fees for virgin mobile. I am a virgin mobile user and I plan on buying their new iphone 4s. They are all prepaid so there are no contracts with the phone. So you wont have to worry about hidden fees like you would with Verizon or At&t etc. They all cost so much because you don't get to have a 2 year contract. But after paying it all up front you save SO much more than you would with any other user. I mean 50$ for an unlimited plan with Virgin mobile for an iphone is incredible versus an almost 100 dollar plan plus tax with Verizon. I think if you do switch you won't end up regretting it. Hope this helped | |

3 edits | Works fine here in nyc On the 25$ plan for 16months already, there have been hiccups a few times nothing disastrous though. Speeds I'm seeing in the last 2 months average 1.5 2.3 down - 0.85 up ping under 140 on an optimus v, wifi hotspot works nicely, use it once a month if that. All in all can not complain for the price. I find it kind of hard to reach the 2.5 gig cap, avg 1.2 gig with pandora. Edit: I see alot of gripes, so I have to say as with "any" wireless provider its all about location, location, location, heh think vm is bad, tmobile is just as bad as metro in nyc.

| | paylo customers would be interested in a better selection and cheaper phones for the PAYLO service too.. tracfone has over a dozen in-production models. | |
|
| | Hope you come to the SF Bay Area This is great although VM could offer services at any Sprint company store or dealer. Maybe they can set up a store in the SF Bay Area? | |
|
| | According to some folks i know that have the Iphone 4s Everything works so well the only downside is the speed is not that super fast but the ping is good. I have straight talk using my old Iphone 3G speeds are slow but ok since i work and my job has wifi hotspot all over. | |
