| Re: Fairpoint only has NH to move forward and it's a shame. an inept company is taking over, will never be able to deliver basic services and the people who live there in those states are going to be paying astronomical amounts of money for phone service. Verizon once again screws the public. | |

| Re: Fairpoint only has NH to move forward No doubt Fairpoint has an opportunity, but is the hole to deep? Fairpoint at some point after the aquisition state that because of Verizons neglect, that Fairpoint will not be able to keep their promises. Revenues will be down and layoffs will begin. It would really be interesting to see just how Fairpoint plans to finance this endeavor. -- "There is no such thing as public opinion. There is only published opinion."....Winston Churchill

| Re: Fairpoint only has NH to move forward Anything is better than Verizon in the Styx. I live in Ohio with AT&T out in the styx and most of the time my dialup wont even work with them! Lots of times I have to use my Verizon Wireless modem hooked up to a 3 watt amplifier on a yagi antenna just to get on the web were I am. My mother in Alburg Vermont has had DSL out in the middle of nowere with Fairpoint for about four years now and is very happy with it. I have visited many times and hooked up to her DSL modem with my laptop and never had a complaint! Anyone that dont have DSL with Verizon in urban areas yet you will have a better chance of getting it with Fairpoint! Point said. | |

| NH should insist on more fiber. However the utility commissioners will probably sell out cheap. | |

| At what cost? Ok aside from the potential loss of good paying jobs to the residents of these areas, etc. I have heard - that typically, FairPoint gets up to about 30% more for the same DSL service level (depending where) than does Verizon. Many areas that FairPoint serves incur modem fees (Verizon customers do not pay this fee). There are probably a great deal of other fees, structures, systems, etc. that are different - why not - the two companies have nothing in common corporate-wise. They both were not offspring of Ma Bell.
If their fees, systems, etc. continues - or is allowed to resume after some certain length of time that may be part of the negotiations between FairPoint and the PUCs, who will be able to afford it?

I assume that you mean that while Verizon is an offspring of Ma Bell, FairPoint is not. Verizon used to be Bell Atlantic and Nynex (né New York Telephone) which were formed when Ma Bell was split up.

What good is having DSL available on your street if you can't afford it?? Fairpoint will be so financially strapped for years that they will have to increase rates a lot. IMHO this deal makes no sense for NH whatsoever. There are other phone companies who would gladly take over Verizon's NH lines and offer NH residents more for less than Fairpoint ever could.

| Drop land lines ... then .. As soon as NH "OK" the Verizon deal. I'm dropping my land lines and getting a second wireless phone and transfer the number.
Bottom line .... I don't trust them ... If Verizon couldn't make any money on it. How do they plan on doing it without rising the prices ...
