| Samsung needs to get their act together. I've owned numerous Galaxy S phones and until they address the GPS issues with seem to plague only their phones, the poor battery life (my HTC phones have much better battery life) and their horrid support, they will not be known as the "iPhone killer". | |
|
| | | Re: Samsung needs to get their act together. I've seen some poor GPS performance in the original Galaxy S phones, but I haven't seen as much in the S II and none in the S III at least yet.
Battery life in the SIII is decent although not as good as the razr maxx.

| | | | Re: Samsung needs to get their act together. said by delusion ftl :Battery life in the SIII is decent although not as good as the razr maxx. If the quality control turns out to be good the Galaxy S III is clearly the best all around Android phone. All top Androids compared to each other have various strengths and weaknesses but overall the S III seems the best.
The battery life is just fine for the average user. It is only the heavy daily users where the battery becomes an issue.
The life of the Motorola Razr Maxx, (one of the genuinely top Android phones), as only a slightly longer battery life. However, you pay $100 more for the battery on that phone as compared to the standard Motorola Razr which again is more than adequate battery wise for an average user.

| I own a Samsung Galaxy S II from Sprint since September last year with zero problems. GPS works fine and the battery life on this phone is the best I have had in any smartphone. I now go through the whole day without even having to think about my battery dying. This phone replaced the HTC EVO 4G which was a nightmare on battery life. | |
|
| | | I have my Galaxy S III for 3 weeks now and I am amazed at the battery life. First phone EVER to run all day on a charge. In fact, after a day of HEAVY use i still have around 30% left by the time i go to bed. I owned an S2 before that, and had to buy spare batteries to get me through the day; one of them always sitting in the charger being filled while the one being used about 20% per hour of usage. | |

It's completely useless for directions, because it can't keep track of where I am for more than 5 minutes. The battery life is also pretty bad compared to my iPhone 4.

| | | | You should probably get a replacement. The GPS on my Galaxy Nexus has been rock solid. You may just have a flawed unit. | |

| Re: Samsung needs to get their act together. This is a widespread problem with Samsung Galaxy phones. I've noticed anytime I mention this, I get bombarded with people saying it's a fault phone, yet many people have this issue. Perhaps Samsung should focus on quality control (if in fact there are this many faulty phones) rather than putting out a new phone a week. | |
|
| | | BootesPremium join:2005-01-28 Palo Alto, CA | Have there been reports of them replacing/fixing phones with this issue? I feel like this is something that would be pretty difficult to get help with.
I would expect them to just say that GPS signal can be affected by many things and I can't say for sure that there's something wrong with the hardware. I would normally assume it wasn't a problem with the phone. However, my iPad, iPhone 4, and HTC Titan II don't seem to have these problems.

My Pebble Blue Galaxy S3 32GB was just shipped like 2 hours ago (FedEx overnight, but since tomorrow is holiday, arrival on Thursday or Friday).
I ordered like first thing when it went on pre-order, right around 7am when it finally showed up on the site.
Yay Verizon for shipping earlier than they told people. And my unlimited data plan

Disclaimer: I have not used the verizon version yet. Having gone from a Droid X to an iphone 4s, you will miss iOS. Why? The Android experience is not that good unless you do everything with Google. My Droid X had a horrible IMAP client, blew through battery life, was finicky with everything and just not as good of an experience as ios.
|
| | thecp join:2004-07-15 Sacramento, CA | Re: Wont be disappointed It's unlikely he's going to be moving from the 4s to the Droid X and the fact the Android experience varies from manufacturer to manufacturer makes your comparison a bit irrelevant. Also, that was not my experience with the droid x, not sure why you couldn't use a 3rd party e-mail app or google's own if you didn't like the default one. | |

| I have the SIII I've had my 32GB blue Sprint SIII for nearly a week now. Battery life isn't the greatest, but it's improving as I stop fiddling with the phone 24/7 and actually settle down into a normal use case.
From my perspective, this is the most advanced phone, bar none, available right now, besting even the HTC One X variants, and it's advanced enough that I probably won't mind when the LTE iPhone comes out in another few months (then again, the only iPhone I've owned was the first-gen, though I own a third-gen iPad).
One interesting dichotomy about Sprint's SIII vs. Verizon's: Sprint's version came out earlier but can't get LTE anywhere quite yet (except in a pocket around Waco, TX, where the network is being field tested prior to launch in a week or two). Verizon's version isn't out quite yet but when it's launched the phone will be able to take advantage of an enormous LTE network right away, albeit with data caps and overage fees.
One pro of the Sprint version though is that it has Google Wallet (due to the upcoming Isis tech, Verizon's version doesn't have the payment platform). The Sprint version also includes 50GB of Dropbox storage, something that I probably won't use much due to the 25GB I have on Google Drive and the 48GB split between my phone and my microSD card (I'll probably upgrade the microSD to 64GB, for 96GB total, in a month or two). But it's still cool. Just like using a not-credit-card to make credit card purchases at McDonald's and the like.
I'm really looking forward to LTE going live though...Sprint's network is going to be just as lightly loaded at that point as AT&T's is in their LTE areas, but with more closely spaced cell sites taking the place of wider bandwidth to deliver a comparable experience to Verizon and AT&T, but without data transfer caps. Not that I'd run into those now if they existed on Sprint...I'm well under 1GB most months due to a combination of WiFi and lackluster 3G...but on LTE the ability to sit down wherever and watch a Netflix video without worrying about being able to check my e-mail later is a great place to be.
It'll be extra-fun to have this phone where my parents live, since their town is part of the San Antonio launch market, but is small enough that I'll bet only a couple dozen people will be connected to LTE across the whole area. Out west of town, I might have the entire LTE side of the tower, a couple miles from my parents' house, to myself!

| Re: I have the SIII Living in Waco - a coworker of mine ordered the SIII and is going to try out the LTE (obviously)
I have Verizon's LTE on my Galaxy Nexus & love it. I regularly see speeds of 10mbps on a slow day, and around 8mbps for the upload speeds.
I can't wait until this is more common everywhere.

| | Ordered I ordered it from Verizon about two weeks ago. They said they expect to ship it on the 11th and I just checked the status and it's still on the 11th. It kind of sucks that they will be in store on the 10th.....so does this mean I'll get mine early? Hope so.
In any case, I started at an iPhone 3G and had lots of problems with it. Upgraded to Droid X and love it, but wished they would continue upgrading it. I decided to get the S3 because of the openness of the phone and it seems like it has great support in the hacking/customizing community.

A very good indicator that a 4G iPhone is in the pipeline is the 4G iPad.

I had an upgrade available and was going to do the same thing but then i found out that verizon wont be allowing you to keep your unlimited plan unless you upgraded prior to a few days ago. Supposedly the only way you can keep your unlimited plan would be to pay the full retail price.
I wound up placing a pre-order for the galaxy s III in order to keep my unlimited plan and get on the 4g network, worst case scenario if I dont like the galaxy s III, I'll sell it on ebay and buy the iphone5 for full retail price in order to keep my unlimited plan.
