VZ (formerly GTE) is the LEC for Los Gatos and Morgan Hill, both 'bedroom' communities for the San Jose/Silicon Valley area. I'm located in the Almaden Valley area of San Jose, just a couple of miles from Los Gatos. I'm currently on an AT&T RT for sonic.net DSL, but would love to see VZ come 'over the line' in my direction. I see U-Verse terminals going in all over the San Jose area, but none in my area yet.

In areas where they already have a major presence, they may try and expand within the area. In other words, Verizon is in fact going into areas where it had no actual presence, and is laying new lines down in ATT areas which it previously had no access to, and provided no services in.

Had guys going door-to-door to recruit for weeks and all I had to do was convince them that I actually "understand" how inferior "advanced" offering was and they left me alone. I will be the first verizon sub on the block if verizon brings fios to my door and I imagine many would follow. | |

No word on whether Frisco and north Plano will be on the same schedule or not. | |

| i think it is a wonderful idea to wire places were MONEY WILL BE LOST THE FASTEST and help the companies go into debt and STOP DEPLOYING ANY FIBER. this logic MAKES PERFECT sense to me.
companies are going to this 'cherry picking' becuase it makes sense to do it, especially when the cost of deployment is very high. why pick an area that has poor return on investment over one that has a better ROI? i think anyone with a sound mind would pick areas that makes sense financially, but apparently some people don't understand this concept. | |

If we had a statewide franchise, maybe the state would have an excuse to force them to deploy elsewhere, but statewide franchises bring other problems. | |

| What would really burn AT&T... is if they wired San Diego county. There isn't a single Verizon sub here. AT&T's only competition for their subpar service is COX, which isn't too bad, but if FiOS came here... EVERYONE would be on Verizon overnight.

For at&t to come out and do the same thing into Verizon territory would be a uphill battle because of its slower speeds and use of existing infrastructure(like using old copper pair wiring). But at&t maybe able to compete in areas like Vermont/New Hampshire(now under Fairpoint Comm.), and other non FiOS Verizon territory to extend the reach of VDSL, where Verizon has neglected to put in. Its a thought. | |
