| Re: Unwinding quad or triple play more problem than cost savings I don't see enough value add in Cablecos and Telcos bundling wired and wireless services to justify the effort and confusion.
The most important thing to me when choosing a cellular provider is coverage and phone selection, so no amount of bundling is ever going to make me switch to a service that doesn't work where I live and work.

The main problem with bundles is none of these companies can do everything right.
I prefer a company that concentrates on doing one or two things right, not a half-ass attempt at doing it all for less...

| Bundling can work well I bundle local, ld, dsl, directv and wireless with Qwest. I pay $35 for local with features, $16 unlimited ld, $32 for 3meg DSL, $5 off of DirecTV (which I have had for over 10 years, why not get the discount?), and the $5 discount on the wireless. BTW, I just noticed that DSL modems are half off with online order.
Let me say this about Qwest wireless. I have had numerous providers over the years. I know Qwest uses Sprint to provide service, but Qwest must have more roaming agreements than anyone else I have ever used. I have the Cross Country Plus plan, which means no roaming charges. My daughter is in college, and her friends are amazed at the places she can get a call out while they can't. She has friends with Cingular, Verizon, Sprint (also Cricket, but they don't count) and her phone works much better than any of theirs, all around the region. So I would say that, while not the cheapest, Qwest wireless is the best, and never had a service or billing issue.

| Re: Bundling can work well Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but you're paying $35 + $16 for local phone service, so that's $51. Hardly what I'd call a "deal". I would have gone with VOIP service from my cable company, Wide Open West, but they are priced way above the competition. Even with bundling discounts, it works out to $35/mo. Vonage, ATT CallVantage, etc. are selling the same thing for $15 - $25/mo. The good thing about bundling VOIP with internet is hopefully there is a better VOIP QoS within the ISPs network. I notice SpeakEasy won't sell their VOIP unless you are already a SE internet customer. Probably a smart move, less complaints that way. | |

Probably makes mr bell mad though.

| intergrated packages Now that Comcast are providing Digital Phone service in this area, they started pestering me to take their service. However, why should I spend $39.99 a month for a lesser package than Vonage offer me? I make a number of calls to the UK which are free, and also have a UK virtual number, something that Comcast do not offer. I also have a toll-free number for business use. It's all about two things in my book - value for money, and reliability - and in my experience, Vonage provide both. I see no reason to change. | |

| "Quadruple Play" Doesn't Make Sense Alright...they're already bundling you Internet, Wireless, and Television. Now, if the phone service is already stellar enough to bundle those three services...then why do you even need a VoIP from the same company? And, on the flip side, if the wireless rates are so high that VoIP is savings-justified, then why would you even get wireless services from Verizon in the first place?
I could see a bundle of broadband, wireless, and TV...or even broadband, VoIP, TV. However, to offer wireless and VoIP on the same package seems to be indicate that one of the other bundled services isn't performing adequately.

·Verizon FIOS
| I want it I will sign up for Verizon Wireless and leave Nextel next year.
I have FIOS
I have their local/long distance service for $39 unlimited+fees (I do use Sunrocket for $199 for 2 YEARS)as an additional line(s).
I will order their TV when it is released (my town has an agreement finally).
They are about $10 less a month for comparable packages with Comcast. They give discounts for triple/quad play and free cable boxes.
The FIOS Internet is wicked fast (4 times Comcast speed). -- Just my 2 cents...Flame Lightly...

| quit the internet voip comparisons! How people can continue to compare POTS and cable voip costs to what they're paying for Internet voip like vonage or sr is beyond me. and to insist that users of cable voip are somehow suckers because they could be saving $15 by using vonage are being dishonest.
People DO consciously pay more for a service that they perceive is more reliable and better quality. A service that works when the power's off and that will dispatch a technician when there's a problem.
before i'm pegged as some sort of telco/catv apologist, let it be known that i've been a sunrocket voip user for the last couple years. sure, i definitely save money, but i also get what i pay for (lack of reliability, quality, etc).

| taxes, surcharges, excise plan If they mean WIRELESS, they can KEEP IT! As it is, they're increasing fees on set-top boxes they'll lose customers for their OVERPRICED cable service!! as for POTS vs VOIP, clearly VOIP is poised to be the clear winner here.. it's just that the cable industry puts a monkey wrench into whole value proposition as they deliver VOIP in a tier-1 distribution as compared with 3rd party distribution. Verizon doesn't even really want to sell voip.. but sooner or later they will be forced into embracing voip (as they push the average revenue per subscriber on POTS lines above tolerance). | |
