As expected, Verizon will launch their EVDO wireless broadband service in San Francisco today, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. As we mentioned over the weekend, the company is also dropping the price of their unlimited data tier from $80 a month to $60 (offers speeds around 500kbps/100kbps), though with a few caveats (discussed by our readers below). The move is in anticipation of Sprint deploying their own EVDO solution in the same markets before year's end.

I guess the catch is BUNDLED SERVICES.

$59.99 monthly access w/ 2-yr customer agreement and qualifying voice plan. Otherwise, it's still $79.99.

BFD, Thanks a lot! I guess the catch is BUNDLED SERVICES.

They apparently aren't interested in hooking new customers.

That stinks!

I wonder which voice plans qualify?

What is wrong with bundled service? That is how they can justify price cuts and at the same time reward their existing customer base with lower costs on new offerings. You tend to your existing customers 1st before expanding to new customers.

I just bought an EVDO card at a Verizon store in NJ. I got the $59.99 plan on a 2 year contract with NO VOICE, only data service.

I'll wait on Sprint

Sprint will soon roll out EVDO and lower there price as well. I'll happily sign a 2 year contract with them.

Verizon coverage in Michigan sucks compared to Sprint.

When is Verzion EDO coming to San Jose

Gesh I only had my EVDO card now for 6 months and keep getting different stories on when they are going to flip the switch ...They said August but i have yet to see it. I choose to suspend the wireless card as $80 for dial up speeds is a bit crazy. any idea when San Jose will get EVDO...
