U-Verse Launched in OhioOr parts of it, anyway.... ( old news - 10:10AM Monday Jun 25 2007) tags: dsl · Video · competition · business · telco · contentIt may be a little later than our leaked launch schedule indicated, but it looks like AT&T has launched its U-Verse IPTV & VDSL service in portions of Akron and Cleveland, Ohio. As with other markets, deployment is selective. Service around Cleveland is initially available in just parts of Bay Village, Berea, Broadview Heights, Brooklyn, Euclid, Fairview Park, Lakewood, Lyndhurst, Mayfield Heights, Mentor, North Royalton, Orange, Solon, South Euclid, Warrensville Heights, Westlake, Willoughby Hills and Willowick. Service in the Akron area is initially available in just parts of Cuyahoga Falls, Fairlawn, Kent, Munroe Falls, Silver Lake and Stow.
AT&T's U-Verse offers VDSL broadband service in three flavors: •Elite: Downstream up to 6.0 Mbps, upstream up to 1.0 Mbps•Pro: Downstream up to 3.0 Mbps, upstream up to 1.0 Mbps•Express: Downstream up to 1.5 Mbps, upstream up to 1.0 Mbps. AT&T is offering two free months of TV to new users, and they're offering a year's worth of free HD service (as previously mentioned) to users who bundle. AT&T offers TV packages alone, priced out as such: •U-Family: 50 channels, $44•U100: 100 channels, $44•U200: 190 channels, $59•U300: 240 channels, 34 premium channels, $79•U400: 300 channels, 49 premium channels, $99 The company currently offers 27 HDTV channels. Here are the TV prices when bundled with broadband VDSL service (Express/Pro/Elite per month): •U-family: $59/$64/$74•U100: $59/$64/$74•U200: $74/$79/$89•U300: $94/$99/$100•U400: $114/$119/$129 Additional detail on DVR rentals, their channel lineup and AT&T's qualification tool are, of course, available at the U-Verse website. As always, your questions can be answered by the helpful folks in our U-Verse forum. Related:- AT&T IPTV Launches In Fifteenth Market

| Re: Expenive said by SpookyET :It's rather expensive. Compared to Comcast (in Atlanta) it is cheap. The similar-featured U200 to what I now have on Comcast (6MB down/384kb up and Digital TV w/DVR) is significantly less. On Comcast I pay about $130/month, on U-Verse it would be $89+taxes. Plus, the U-Verse system comes with the DVR that can record 4 channels simultaneously. | |

TO: Annoy,,WHY NOT call your local phone company & find out "'WHEN" it will be in your area??? =========================================== SpookyI think I am going to stickwith satallite/Directv-not just because I'am locked in till November, but i am paying $100.00 per month. MY PACKAGE for Over 250 channels, including local channels Includes 31 premium movie channels and over 30 specialty sports networks, this includes the all the starz & HBO channels DIRECTV Protection Plan included for 1 year which I have had for 7 yrs & enjoy.upgrading to HD,& with a new bigger H.D.satallite dish w/free install

1 edit | Guess he wasn't lying At&t had a rep out walking around my neighborhood asking everyone if they were happy with their service and that they weren't spending more than $30/month for DSL. I asked him when U-Verse would be around here and he said about a year as they were deploying in Cleveland. I'm about an hour south of Cleveland, 30 minutes from Akron, so I guess it really is coming. I'm not too concerned though since I spend most of my time in Columbus but I see that is coming later this year. The download speeds aren't impressive, but that 1 mbps upload would be great to have.
I also noticed they are releasing it in all the nice suburbia areas, my wait might be longer!

| Re: Could care less about TV It amazes me when people still think about how pathetic the internet speeds are with U-verse. They just don't get it.
U-verse is about the TV service, they just so happen to bundle the internet service.
What's worth discussing is the available HD stream, or the lineup with respect to the pricing, as compared to satellite and cable. --

| Great Our friends (and some relatives of mine) just about 45 miles to the Northwest can now get U-Verse but hell, some of my neighbors up the street can't even get DSL yet and I can barely get 384kbps without having trouble!

though from what I've been reading, their service seems like it won't be that great, the selection of channels is somewhat compelling. HD is the future, whether it be full 1080 or mixed channels using ~20Mbps. I don't see any of the TV providers out there actively showing off their HD tech. It'd be nice to see channel line-up's from DTV and TW. -- illegal wars, prisoners with no trials, and state controlled media. welcome to the land of the free!

Hopefully they'll increase their speeds in the future.
