OTA networks...

So first they charge so much for retransmission and now they want to force ads too?

I think it is time for new network to start up, IPTV networks

They always "forced ads". Afterall that is what they are selling - ads. The shows are merely there to get you to watch ads. It has been that way since the 1950's. Retransmission fees were added to recover income lost to people watching less ads. It merely supplements ad income.

Because we all know ads can't be transmitted over IP.

It is not about ads, it's about networks getting paid by ads + carriers.

Auto-skip is what got ReplayTV sued into oblivion....

Years ago, one of the earliest, slickest DVR's implemented this feature and it worked very well. It would just auto jump commercials on replaying back recorded shows.

The DVR's were ReplayTV units, hugely innovative at the time.

.... they got sued by Hollywood lawyers and the company was virtually bankrupted by legal costs, had to sell out, and even then the lawsuits continued... it really was the kiss of death.

Expect Dish Network to face lawsuits or demands for higher royalties as a result. Personally, it ought to be criminal to try and control what consumers do in their own homes playing back recorded content, but hey, this is America!

it should be criminal for big industry to lobby as well. But since it is not we get the legal structure that allows them to prevent consumers from controlling how, when, where they consume the content they get.
