Camden, TN | Netflix is now a streaming service for tv shows, not films bad move. Netflix should be MORE agressive at getting nrew movies not less. Just letting Hollywood win( actually they are losing but too stupid to know that ) and preventing the future from taking place.
John Hall, a graphic designer in Massachusetts, said he recently dropped the streaming service and started resorting to DVD rentals for that reason. Whenever he headed to Netflix to stream a film, he said, “more often than not, the film I wanted to see was only available on disc.”
Netflix is sensitive to that criticism — but says it doesn’t really matter. (And not just because Mr. Hall is still paying for DVDs by mail.) As long as its algorithms serve up something worth watching, even if it’s not the subscriber’s first choice, he or she will continue paying for and enjoying the service, the company believes.
BS Netflix. I want movies and if you aren't going to provide them I'll go elsewhere. I am already paying for TV via my cable subscription and if I wanted more TV I'll get Hulu Plus. If the Verizon/RedBox streaming service that comes out in August forcuses on movies Netflix will lose a ton of subscribers. Netflix needs to grow some balls and stop running scared of Hollywood. If they forced Hollywood to see that streaming is actually profitable they'd be more likely to go for it instead of trying to kill it. | |

kudos:20 | The Starz deal was never that important. This was proven when Netflix managed to capture one million Canadian subscribers in about 10 months, despite not having the Starz movies. That's pretty impressive considering Netflix had no DVD service in Canada, and had to build the customer base from scratch.
To put this in perspective, Netflix managed to sign up roughly one in ten Canadian households in ten months without Starz; it's the rough equivalent to getting 10 million new US subscribers in 10 months.

Atlanta, GA | Silent roamers? I have absolutely no sympathy for any money lost by carriers over roaming. Do they really expect me to pay $15 per minute for a call or $18 per megabyte for data when I'm in China? As soon as I step off of the plane, I head for a kiosk and purchase a local prepaid SIM for my Android phone and enjoy calling/data without being anal-raped by the US carrier. However, I can occasionally reinsert my T-Mobile SIM and use the Wi-Fi calling when I want to talk with people back in the states. I make sure that my background data is disabled, however.

Which is just one of many reasons not to own an iPhone when there are far better choices available.

The specs may be lttle outdated and closed Apple eco-system very restrictive but it's ultimately user experience what counts not what specs must it have. What's the advantage of having now LTE on phone, when web browsing speed is the same and wi-fi is around everywhere. In addition Sprint and Verizon will UNLOCK the iPhone for you. You can also get unlocked iphone for full price directly from Apple. AT&T doesn't unlock but I am sure there are some some unofficial workarounds. And just because they don't do it now, doesn't mean they won't do later. Now u can get accidental insurance coverage from them which they did not do offer previously, and even then you could go with 3rd party insurer.
Every carrier has some disadvantages and so does any phone. None of the carriers offer free tethering with larger data plans like 2gb. They want you to purchase highest tier. But there is workaround thanks to jailbreaking (and rooting on Android). | |

kudos:20 | Silent roamers: not complicated The problem and answer are both very simple. Customers turn off their phones while roaming because roaming fees are exorbitant. The solution is to reduce roaming fees to rates that are the same or close to that of non-roaming calls.
Public Mobile in Canada is attempting to differentiate themselves by offering a US roaming rate of $0.15. WIND Mobile is similarly offering a rate of $0.25 per minute. Most of the incumbent carriers charge fees in the neighbourhood of $1.50 per minute.
Public Mobile's rate is low enough that a consumer would likely feel free to make phone calls as usual, while the incumbent rate is high enough to trigger the "turn-off-phone" behaviour.
