Amazon.com MP3 takes on iTunes

»news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-10048···1_3-0-20
Amazon.com's DRM-free MP3 store pre-loaded on each Android phone.

iTunes is a locked-down service that will only let you play your songs on Apple devices. Quite the contrary, Amazon's DRM-free store will let you download songs online or now, on the G1, and let you take that song to any other device you wish. Want to add it to your iTunes library? Go for it. Want to put it on your Zune? What are you waiting for?

Sure, we've known about this for quite some time--the store already has 6 million songs, you know--but there is a huge base of people who have used iTunes for so long that they don't even know what's out there. Some may not want to switch and will continue using iTunes, but now that Amazon's store is slowly gaining some of the limelight, Apple should start paying more attention to Amazon's offering.

It may only be 10 cents, but saving that much actually matters to people. And when you can buy a song and bring it with you wherever you'd like, it only makes sense that you'd want to buy an Amazon song instead of the same track from iTunes.

Granted, the G1 probably won't sell nearly as well as the iPhone 3G, but we can't forget that the G1 is just one device of many that Google and its partners will be rolling out over the next year. And that's when the real competition will start.
ITunes should get some competition. Maybe it will make Apple stop being such arrogant S.O.B.'s.

Lexus starts up WEB TV network with original programming

»news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080923/wr_···drow_net
The carmaker is launching an Internet-only branded channel Tuesday (September 23) stocked with a full slate of original programing headlined by Kudrow in a shortform comedy series in which she plays a nutty shrink.

The choice of the Emmy-winning Kudrow for the lead role in "Web Therapy" should bring attention to what Lexus is calling L Studio, available at »LStudio.com.

In "Therapy," Kudrow plays Fiona Wallice, a psychotherapist who conducts absurdly abridged three-minute sessions via the Internet that do little to help her clients. In 15 episodes she juggles five clients, played by Bob Balaban, Jane Lynch, Rashida Jones, Tim Bagley and Dan Bucatinsky.

"Sex and the City" writer-producer Amy B. Harris joins the site in October with a scripted series of her own, "Puppy Love," in which she examines the relationships between people and their dogs. Harris recruited many other "Sex" writers to contribute to the 40-episode series.

Lexus plans to recruit more celebrity contributors in the coming months. For now, the rest of L Studio is an eclectic mix of high-toned nonfiction programing that concerns everything from art to architecture to science.
Hopefully this works better than the unlamented Bud.TV channel.

Google Chrome losing their new users back to IE & FF

»news.yahoo.com/s/nf/20080923/tc_nf/62042
Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox lost some users with the debut of Google's Chrome browser, but they are returning. Just three weeks after its launch, Chrome is seen as not so polished and is losing some users, according to Net Applications, an Internet tracking company.

Net Applications tracked 40,000 sites and found that Chrome made up .77 percent of the browsers visiting the sites, down from .85 percent last week. And down substantially from 1.4 percent in the first week of its release, according to Nielsen Online.
A report Tuesday from Net Applications showed Internet Explorer commanded 72.15 percent of the browser market, Firefox followed with nearly 20 percent, and Apple's Safari was in third with 6.37 percent. Both Firefox and Internet Explorer regained lost users last week, according to Net Applications. Internet Explorer's users increased .24 percentage points while Firefox regained .06 points.
Many tried it. But Firefox users saw little reason to switch. Especially after seeing how there are no add-ons for Chrome.

Downloaded Chrome the day it was available. Removed it the same day. I did not like it at all.

Um maybe because it's a BETA? I'm sure when it gets out of beta, as long as some of it's issues are fixed many people will switch. Also people go back to an old browser because it's habit. As far as FF add-ons? I don't get that. I'm pretty sure that's why FF gets a reputation of being a memory hog. I need a web browser for the purpose of allowing me to browse the web. I don't need it to serve me tea and give me a handjob.

I've tried safari and it's fast, there's alot to like about it. Now if you could change the grey on grey skin I'd might use it more. Also if the google toolbar would work with too hat would be better.

Re: Google Chrome losing their new users back to IE & FF

I have add-ons for things like weather updates, blocking ads, rendering a page with IE in a separate tab, etc.

The only thing out of that list I wouldn't mind having integrated into the browser is the ad-blocking, it's nice to be able to pick and choose what you want a program to do.

Comcast: No complaints with Web traffic system

Apparently the selected users Comcast surveyed didn't know any better or they were totally naive about the scheme of things.

Re: Comcast: No complaints with Web traffic system

Or according to comcast's #'s so few were ever effected, for such a short time, no one felt restricted enough to complain. ie, Maybe it worked as designed.
