Stephen Colbert

He may be Internet Person of the Year, but he still lost to Rain.
Curse you, Rain.

Oklahoma did the same thing as MO is doing...

... and then at&t (then SBC) did put DSLAM's in the smaller towns.... partially fulfilling their pledge....

... but that's where it stops. The towns.... Much of the rural areas was been sold off to companies like Windstream and other small operators.

Result: Rural areas, even areas just outside of towns and cities, have nothing but very slow dial-up. (56k even is a dream...)

For them, it's Satellite, or 26.4ish dialup. I'm not talking about way out in the sticks, either.

It is the same in rural Virginia where my family lives. The phone system physically limits a dialup connection to maximum 24kbps. There is no DSL, no cable, no wireless. Can't even get a cellphone signal.

Re: Oklahoma did the same thing as MO is doing...

Well, it's not quite that bad.... at least there's Cellphone signal in most places... Well unless U get well outside the towns, and are not near any major highways.

But yeah, there's no cable or DSL or wireless Internet, just dialup, and whatever it passes thru kills V.90 and V.92 and leaves you with less then 33.6k speed.

Slow doesn't describe it on the modern net. It's awful.
