Given that most of their cable competitors continue to raise rates, Verizon has found they've been able to raise rates in kind (as much as 12% in some instances). Not only for bundles, as we'll outline below, but also for hardware. Last year alone, Verizon increased FiOSTV prices by 7%, added a new $75 disconnect fee, and bumped the price for their high-definition DVR rental from $12.99 to $15.99 per month in many markets.

We've obtained an internal talking point memo used by a major cable operator's call center that tracks the precise recent price changes for FiOS TV service bundles per State. The training sheet (recapped below the break) allows cable customer support reps to very quickly highlight FiOS bundle hikes to customers when trying to justify their own.

Market to market price variations aren't as dramatic as with many cable providers. Some States still pay the same price for symmetrical 15Mbps & 20Mbps service, though the broadband prices don't vary more than $2 from market to market. TV bundle prices vary only slightly, but never more than $10 from market to market. Several bundles, particularly Verizon's 5Mbps bundle, have seen decreases.

Again, these are a major cable operator's observations in the markets they serve, so if you see errors, point them out in the comment section below... ... .

I really think they are trying to price themselves into the tivo area to make much more cash flow on the box rental like cable co's have done.

I was looking at homes and found a couple with FIOS, I tell ya I was thinking about just getting a tivo HD hack it to add a hdd array and maybe a couple cable cards for my other tv's instead of the boxes.

 I agree that is way too high. Someone here correct me if I am wrong, but couldn't most of us here build our own NEW computer HD-DVR for $383.76 "that wouldn't be taxed every month" every 2 years. Not to mention the resell value would have to better on what I would build vs. what I have to give back to them. Also The HD-DVR that i would build would have a lot of features theirs does not, and I am sure a much larger hard drive. So if I am wrong let me know.

Great idea on the home-built HD-DVR, but I have a friend who tried it and he ran into big problems:
1. You can't get *any* HD inputs to the PC unless you purchase a complete media PC from the manufacturer (~$1500)
2. HD encoding takes horsepower - my friend had to go full blown Core2Duo (3ghz P4 didn't cut it) to be able to reliably get his system to do what he wanted under Windows Media Center.
3. To get the encrypted cable streams or sat feeds you *have* to use the providers box (or cablecard). Then you're messing with IR remote codes, a single tuner, etc. (although DTV just unveiled a new USB PC tuner box made for WMC, who knows when it will be actually available though or at what price)

In order to get the digitally encrypted channels on FIOS, you need a cable card enabled PC - they start at about $1,000 not including the tv guide data. Cablelabs will only license cablecard technology for use on complete pc systems, not for tv tuner cards.

I never saw New York mentioned on this list. Does New York even have FiOS TV yet as it's not in my area, that's for sure. As for the price hikes, it's starting to get more expensive. Let's see how things go as for the prices if they keep going up. And these price hikes seem to be anything to do with TV, but yet again, these hikes are most likely being caused by gas prices and the economy doing poor again.

@comcast.net		 check your contract a lot of provider put in there contract a sentence that say we reserve the rights to change packages and price whenever we see fit without notice. i have seen this sentence in a lot of contact with almost all providers.

If you read the forum you will see that it has not gone up for anyone during the term of the contract. Many people renewed their contract to avoid the increases.

New Jersey has still got the best deal!

I love FIOS!

They forgot the 50mbps/20mbps package here too for $187/month with TV. Not bad if you need that type of bandwidth.

Hmmm so in PA is better to get the 1 year 5/2 @ 110.98/mth than the 2 year 115.98/mth? I would think the longer your a customer you get a break. reverse logic I guess.
Glad I just got internet fios till these new services get resolved. And the price increase is for,,,? The first paragraph seems to lead me to believe well the cable companies increased lets Version do it too....so if they fall off the cliff is verizon going to follow that too?

The 1-year contract price is lower, but what happens to your price upon renewal? It looks like they have a programmed price increase planned. In other words, the 2-year contract price has next year's $5 price increase built in. (I picked $5 because higher may cause defections to other providers.)

With low speed internet in the package, there's a $5 difference between 1-year and 2-year prices. Hmm, looking ahead, if they increase the price on the package next year by $5, then the better choice is to go with 1-year. If they increase the package price next year by $10 (I don't think so), then there is no difference long-term between the two plans. If they increase the price next year by more than $10, then the 2-year plan is cheaper in the long run.

Which plan you pick should factor in your bet as to how much they will raise prices during the term of your contract.

Because the higher speed data packages are generally priced the same between 1- and 2-year terms, they are likely stable prices.

I locked in a 2-year 20/5 triple play for $99 before the price increase, so we'll see where things stand in Jan. 2010. If the price is too high then, I'll cancel.

I can get FiOS and don't want it

They've raised rates so much, especially on hardware that my TWC+RR service is far cheaper. FiOS started out here to be a good deal, especially with HSI, but they've taken 2 hefty increases. And their non-contract price is even worse.

Freedom Essentials + FiOS 5Mbps/2Mbps + FiOS TV Premier (one-year commitment) decreased from $119.98 to $115.98

Well how is 2yr contract more expensive than 1yr? I think someone probably mixed them up.

the 2 year is more expensive, cause the price is locked in for 2 years, im a fios sales consultant, and thats how our management team explained it to us.

HD DVR price more expensive in Southern CA

Just had my triple play installed. I was planning to get the HD DVR but when the instal. tech said it's $19.99 a month, I said forget that and just got the standard dvr for $8.99. Also, I thought my Fios Phone Bill was going to be cheaper but I got my order confirmation in the mail and my Freedom Essential Plan is $51.00.

Overall I'm still saving at least $20 per month on the triple play.
