| Re: Clearwire? Clearwire is still on the old pre-WiMAX that isn't truly mobile. They'll be upgrading to 802.16e but it hasn't started yet. This will apparently be the first major city to have 802.16e mobile WiMAX, which also reportedly performs better indoors than pre-WiMAX. | |

| just what I thought Just what I thought, Wimax will become nothing more than an off the shelf "proprietary" fixed p2p/p2m wireless system for specialized applications. All it will do it let telecom providers and other businesses have bidding on wireless equipment since there is now a standard with interoperability rather than 100s of proprietary vendor specific standards. | |

| Re: just what I thought Actually WiMAX is an IEEE spec, about as open as it gets. LTE is 3GGP, more limited and controlled by the telcom industry. WiMAX has a much greater chance of getting on a broad range of devices like WiFi. LTE devices will be limited and controlled by the telcom industry. | |

| Would it be appropriate to start a new thread with pics of the equipment? It has been rock solid, and since many of the towers are on their fiber ring (capacity should NOT be an issue). I have had 0 downtime since installation, and my speed has varied from 13 down to 5.1 down, but no less than that. Up speed really sucked until I tweaked it in Vista (which I thought did not need tweaking), but it goes from 1.5 to 3.1 up. 67-73 MS ping times to test sites. I tried WoW (I don't game to see if it was ok for gaming, and it works fine).
If anyone wants to see pics. I will be happy to do that. The install guy was really nice. He came out did a survey, and found the site that had the strongest signal on the rough.

| well.. Having been a former TowerSteam customer in the New You City area (Empire State Building). TowerStream could barely sustain 4-5 Mbps through a window. Since we were not able to get the sustained speeds when we tried to upgrade service with them, we pulled out of our contract.
I'll also let you in on this. The majority of our traffic showed that our traffic was being put on Cogent. (Now, we never had a problem with this really)
So for them to resell 1,000 Mbps for $1,000 at 8 Mbps for $999.. That's quite the bandwidth profit margin.
While they brand themselves as true enterprise bandwidth alternatives, their pricing model leaves alot to be desired. They wanted more than 3X's what I currently pay for my DS3 (45 Mbps). And THEY aren't having to pay for Verizon facilities to provide it!
If they really want to be considered alternatives, stop pricing higher than your competitors!
