| LOL WUT whats the use of having faster internet? I think a few mb's up and down should be good for everyone. Just watch, In a few months, they are going to say their network is overloaded and then they are gona place caps.
And for me, All i get is dial up and time warner are going to make it faster where people already have high speed internet. why not extend to people who dont have no high speed internet? Im not in the middle of nowhere you know...

Oh, wait...
Seriously though, I just moved to Huntsville, AL, supposedly one of the largest concentrations of engineers and high tech business/manufacturing in the country, and the best I can get out of CC is 8/1. I would think with all the high tech jobs here we'd be getting some of CC's better plans, but then again, at least its 8/1. (And yes, 8/1 is enough for my household, its just that if there were higher tiers, I'd probably pay less for my 8/1) -- Im Your Boogeyman, Thats What I Am

| Re: LOL WUT When 3/256 was the highest, it was $60 mo, and 1.5/256 was like $50 or so. Then when they went to 6/768 as the highest, they priced it at $60 and moved the 3/256 down to the $50. (Prices are a guess, I cant remember what the exact cost was 5yrs ago)
Though you do have a point, when we signed up for service after we moved, the 8/1 is ~$70mo where as the 6/768 is ~$60mo, and when I lived in Panama City, the 6/768 was ~$60mo. I was just hoping they would continue the previous trend of replacing the previous highest speed with the new highest speed at the same price point. -- Im Your Boogeyman, Thats What I Am

The AT&T center is less then 5 miles away from my house, Alot of neighborhoods and all the stores like walmart, gamestop, subway, jack in the b0x, gas stations, and m0ar are like 3 miles away. We got some land with cattle and their is an officer there, Its like 2 miles away and they get time warner cable but what do we get, Power and plain old telephone. I talked to that att guy today and he said he dont know when dsl will be out here. I guess ill just have to wait and look outside every morning and look for some new lines on the telephone pole out on the road........

| perfectly explains why we need more competition Want to increase broadband speeds? Make sure there is more competition there.
Someone has to make the first move, though. If Verizon hadn't done FIOS, Time Warner could take their sweet time everywhere, and not spend the money on upgrades. The more companies competing, the more likely it is that someone will move first.

No matter how they are doing it, if they see people abusing it, especially of all you "online backeruppers, Linux Distro distributers, and daily machine rebuild guys that have to download patches all the time", they will eventually do something as it still cost them.
So yes, you guys that will take all you can as long as you can enjoy your gluttony now.

| Seriously Karl but hasn't stated when. Until then, Hobbs says they'll counter FiOS by locking customers into "price for life" triple play bundle promotions (on top of pretending they offer last mile fiber and picking on the FiOS name). Seriously Karl...once again you have injected your pro FIOS/Telco opinion. Kindly stick to the facts and report the story and nothing but the story. Ordinarily I don't like to respond to such things but recently you have gone way beyond what even I can tolerate. Both sides have valid advantages and disadvantages, each to be decided by their respective customers. Your increasingly obvious sniping is not only very unprofesssional but in this case just isn't true. | |

| No surprise TWC is cheap Let competition run its route. The only way U.S. internet speeds will ever be up to global standards is if ISPs continue to increase available in-home bandwidth. As far as TWC upgrades are concerned "Surgical" couldn't describe their tactics any better. Currently in Ohio, I have sat back the last couple years and watch TWC bandwidth increase everywhere but here, because plain and simple there is no other competition in the state. Although Ohio currently has TWCs powerboost giving me speedtest results of roughly: 30mbps/768k, I think we're the only state left that does not have a 1mbps upload speed. From what I have heard TWC does not support file sharing, but at the same time, keeps their upload speeds lower than other ISPs. This is to ensure them that their customers are not the ones sourcing files to be shared, therefore not making them legally liable. So I am fine with their download as much as you want, just don't source attitude, but if they ever release DOCIS 3.0 you can bet there will definitely be bandwidth caps. By the way I like to thank Comcast for starting what will soon be a downward spiral effect on internet users nation wide. | |

| Makes sense... A nationwide, simultaneous, DOCSIS 3 upgrade would be insanely expensive. So you gotta start somewhere -- why not start where there is the most competition? It's hard to figure how they should enact a bad business strategy that would potentially hurt their ability to compete. It's kind of unreasonable to say, no you can't upgrade in a place where you can maximize your profits, or maintain them, instead you should start somewhere that won't effect your bottom line at all. If TWC was losing a lot of subs in these highly competitive areas they would be less money in the budget to do more DOCSIS 3.0 upgrades in other areas. | |

| slower speed=fewer customers & lower price Fios triple play now starts at 20/20 megabit. For TWC to compete with that, they either have to slash their price... or upgrade to support beyond the limits of docsis 2.0, there's just no two ways about it.. voip won't save them from telco's fttp. Internet is the hook that brings in customers... not phone, not tv. | |
