Company updates New York deployment plan...
02:56PM Friday Oct 16 2009 by Karl Bode
tags: coverage · cable · RoadRunner Cable
Time Warner Cable launched faster $99 50/5 Mbps service in New York City late last month, though only in limited portions of the city. This limited footprint has proven to be a little confusing, as we've seen several customers complain that even Time Warner Cable isn't entirely sure which portions of the city have been upgraded yet. There appears to be some early technical annoyances that need resolving as well. You can read our user impressions of the new service and their install experiences in this thread.

On the positive side, the company's New York website is offering users who plug in their zip code more concrete information on when their market will launch.

According to the website, a significant chunk of New York's Hudson Valley (including Rhinebeck, Walden, Poughkeepsie and Monticello) will be getting the upgrade in March. Unserved portions of New York City will be upgraded first, with big chunks of Queens (Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside) and Brooklyn (Williamsburg, Bushwick, Brooklyn Heights) on tap for November launches.

As we recently reported, a company insider has informed us that the faster speeds are coming to Buffalo in mid-November, Syracuse in December, and Albany in January.

Can't Wait...

can't wait until they bring it to TW New England, more specifically, Maine! Although because we will never see FiOS, does that mean they wont bring it to us?

Re: Can't Wait...

I will still hold out hope. There was little incentive for them to roll out SDV here and add over 70 HD channels the past few weeks, but they did anyways.

Nov 30th, 2009 for Bergen County, NJ.

We shall see....

{Edit} I think 50down is for 99bucks is a bit excessive. I really don't need much in terms of dl speed. I currently get 9/.5 I'd very much would like a higher upload speed. I'd be happy with 10/2 for what I'm paying now.

The $99 will keep this tier to the serioues business and the people with more brains than money. $70 RR Extreme 20/1 is good enough for me.

Huh?

"Unserved portions of New York City will be upgraded first"

I don't get it. How do you upgrade an area that is not served?

In FIOS zip codes only. Then, in February 2012, those speeds will go through a sort of "rolling reversion" back to old speeds. By August 2012, they will be back again for most FIOS areas, along with some U-verse enabled zip codes.

Some areas of SoCal will just get the complete shaft until 2015 (probably those former Adelphia areas, because you know, it's still Adelphia's fault, not Time Warner's).

In 2018 Time Warner will finally announce the new speeds on their SoCal site.

And in 2019, they decide to actually inform their customer service that this update has taken place.

Curiously enough, some of those Adelphia areas are also Fios areas. What do they do with those?

Service

In the end, it is still Crappy Time Warner Cable service....
Does " Nobody else is having a problem in your area", or "reboot your Box", or "We will be there between 8:00 and 5:00" or "Our tech knocked, but there was no answer" ring a bell ?
Pathetic that this is still happening in 2009.

And the best in my area is...

10/512 (Raleigh NC).

It would be nice if TWC cared to compete on speed here.

bad publicity

the last thing twc needs is a hapazard docsis 3.0 rollout, it's bad enough it can't compare with FIOS within the same footprint on sustained speeds 24/7/365, as with docsis 1.x, 2.x now a haphazard rollout upon which I suspected when investigating their website about availability & details was sketchy at best. either have ALL of one borough up and running (within their designated footprint) or not offer the service at all!

Sadness!

I plugged in my zip code and simply got taken to the main TWC page. I suppose I've got nothing to look forward to.
