NCTA has some balls: "Use Stimulus to get us more victims"

"But for McSlarrow, who argues that the companies he represents offer high-speed Internet access to 9.2 percent of U.S. households, that split gives short shrift to the demand side of the broadband equation."

Fixed it for him.

If they really want more customers maybe they should take some of the billions they already got from the gov. and upgrade/expand their network. A better product usually brings more customers.

DirecTV sees subscriber gains; but revenue flat

»tech.yahoo.com/news/ap/20091105/···irectv_5
DirecTV, the nation's largest satellite-TV provider and second-largest behind cable TV operator Comcast Corp. in the pay-TV industry, said that after factoring in cancellations, it added 136,000 net U.S. subscribers during the quarter, ending with 18.4 million.

That's lower than the 156,000 net gains in the same period last year.

Still, thanks to the AT&T deal, DirecTV managed to report a net gain while Comcast, Time Warner Cable Inc. and Cablevision Systems Corp. saw losses. Dish Network Corp. reports on Monday.

DirecTV said Thursday that net income was largely flat at $366 million, or 37 cents per share, slightly short of analyst expectations of 39 cents per share, according to a Thomson Reuters survey.

Verizon Wireless To Increase Termination Fees to $350

"Under threat of increased regulation from Congress, all four of the major wireless carriers in America voluntarily began prorating their termination fees over the life of an average two-year contract. "
What's incredibly ironic about this statement, its that carriers USED to prorate when they first introduced these ETFs.

If I recall right, and I do.. there used to be no contract.. you paid a line charge and per minute. Then, they went to the bundled plans, Cellular One called them "Freedom plans" which included minutes.. Still, at that time, you always purchased your phone - but when you spent a lot of money, they'd generally just give you a handset.. again, no ETF or contracts at the time.

Then, the 1 year, $100 ETF fee came to play.. they were prorated for each month you stayed in the term.. then it became a $200 ETC.. and still a prorate.. then, the prorate stopped.

Hell, to throw this in too, they used to consider holidays as "free" or "off peak" calling days too..

Funny how the industry thinks they are "voluntarily" prorating fees.. they SHOULD say "we're going BACK to prorating these fees"... (as they always should)... the ETF fee was designed to offset the cost of the discounted phones.. however, the discounts they offer are often far less than what they charge you to break out. Further, some providers (sprint/nextel) still charge put you in a contract even if you bring your own phone.. THAT is a major problem.

AT&T Drops Price Of FLO TV from $15/month to $9.99/month

Looked up the channels offered. Not even close to what a person would want in mobile TV. Give me all the favorites (A&E,USA,TNT,Spike, etc) as broadcast. True wireless cable TV I can carry with me.
