University digs into Ron Paul spam...
(old news - 10:49AM Wednesday Oct 31 2007)
tags: Politics · spam
Wired News reports that the University of Alabama is accusing the Ron Paul campaign of using botnets to send political spam. The University's Spam Data Mining for Law Enforcement Applications project processes 2.5 million spam messages a day, and the researchers noticed that a flood of spam promoting the candidate was being laundered through systems in Brazil, Nigeria and elsewhere. From one e-mail:

Ron Paul is for the people, unless you want your children to have human implant RFID chips, a National ID card and create a North American Union and see an economic collapse far worse than the great depression. Vote for Ron Paul he speaks the truth and the media and government is afraid of him.
"This is clearly a criminal act in support of a campaign, which has been committed with or without their knowledge," says Gary Warner, the University of Alabama's director of research in computer forensics. "The question is, will we see more and more of this, or will this bring shame to the campaigns and will they make clear that this is not a form of acceptable behavior by their supporters?"

Paul spokesman Jesse Benton denies the campaign's involvement. "If it is true, it could be done by a well-intentioned yet misguided supporter or someone with bad intentions trying to embarrass the campaign," he says. "Either way, this is independent work, and we have no connection."

Maybe because many of Paul's supporters are over the top fanatics who are somewhat crazy and have made use of the internet their platform to flack for their candidate.

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Who cares?) is a nut. I don't get the obsession with this guy that wants to eliminate the FBI, CIA, IRS, and then blames 9-11 on past foreign policy (Rudy did whack him good on that that fiasco).

The only thing Ron Paul is good for is entertainment: how big of a jerk will he make of himself tonight? Only Kucinich looks more crazy. Paul, Kucinich, and Gravel (the other Democrat nut kicked out of the debates) should all get together and go on some medication.

Kucinich and Ron Paul supporters think both are some God of Politics because they won an Internet Poll. Both just prove there are complete nutjobs in both parties.

Have to agree with Joe Biden on Kucinich: the only thing good about him is his wife.

Ron Paul believes the War Powers Act is Unconstitutional (pretty sure he thinks the income tax is illegal too). Kucinich believes in UFOs according to the last debate, which made him look like a complete idiot. Maybe his wife is an alien? No, she's British. But, that doesn't explain the crop circles at Kucinich's farm.

supergirl See Profile, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion, but your post is indicative of stage 2 of Ghandi's axiom.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Core Libertarian values are the only values which allow all people to live the way they want to live. It is the only ideology which actually encourages other ideologies to flourish. I think you feel threatened by that, or else you wouldn't waste your time belittling it all on the Internet.

Well, he has raised $5 million for his campaign. I guess a lot of "fools and their money parted."

If Ron Paul says, "The Constitution! The Constitution! The Constitution!" one more time, can I whack him on the head with it? It would be good for my constitution.

Under Hillary Klinton that could happen (Illegal Aliens are exempt).

Trick or Treat?

Bill Clinton got drunk in college and ended up sleeping with this woman from the sorority. He woke up the next morning in a strange bed and all his clothes were missing. That wasn't a shock since it happened many times before. The shock came when he pulled back the covers and found Hillary sleeping next to him.

If Ron Paul understood the Constitution, I wouldn't be making fun of him. Of course, he does routinely make a total jacka** out of himself.

Ron Paul is way outside the box, but if he wasn't he wouldn't have supporters (that's growing), he's the only candidate that makes the truth the truth and that's why he's so weird cause most are so used to not thinking for themselfs but have gov do it for them. the other candidates want to tax tax tax, and more gov. Ron Paul sees the Gov as a problem for this country cause its getting bigger WITHOUT any checks and balances.

All I can say is that [some] Ron Paul supporters are the reason I stopped visiting Digg. It just got to be too much. Other than that I have no opinion about the man. It doesn't matter where the spam came from, SPAM is SPAM (unless you fry it up and put some brown sugar sauce on it).

It's not nearly as bad as things like the phone jamming in NH and other dirty tricks some have come up with, but his campaign walks a fine line between great grassroots support and alienating potential voters (and others) with some of the more fanatical 'support' displayed outside of the official campaign.

It's hardly a secret that the cultish supporters of the Bircheresque Crank regularly spam polls and engage in other such overly obsessive behavior in support of their looney suject of worship Ron Paul.

This would hardly be unusual amongst his base of conspiracy theorist, white supremicist band of college kid supporters.

One doesn't really need to bother inventing stories about his supporters; there's also no reason to bother considering that he has absolutely zero chance of winning.

I now await the typical Ron Paul supporter response, which typically involves calling his detractors facist socialist neocons

Perhaps I need to start spamming people about the greatness of Clinton and Giuliani. Will you all have such negative reactions toward those candidates for the spam as well?

Or is this just an excuse to perform a little unwarranted character assassination?

If they didn't fear him, they wouldn't spend the time using ad hominem attacks which are based upon false presumptions.

Ahh the beauty of logically fallacious arguments is that they easily can be dismissed out of hand.

Ron Paul should win the Primary

National ID is a good idea, anyone that thinks its bad is just misinformed.
Just think 1 uniform ID or 50 completely different IDs.
Which scenario makes it easier to spot the fake?

I really hope this election becomes a battle between Obama and Ron Paul. Both are the only good people running.
That way we cannot loose like in the last election.
