Finds fault with bidding process...
(old news - 09:06AM Thursday Jun 28 2007)
tags: competition · business · telco · world
As of last week, it looked very likely that Bell Canada and Telus would merge. Now, though, Telus has backed out of the bidding process for the Canadian telco. Telus tells Reuters that "the inadequacies of BCE's bid process did not make it possible for Telus to submit an offer." Apparently, Bell Canada has been rushing things -- annoying bidders who wanted more time to do their homework.

Re: Yay for competition... or what's left of it..

Problem is bell is over regulated and they can't compete with say rogers cellular network. The CRTC regulates what Bell can charge. They force them to have higher prices in effect they can't be as "competitive".

That only applies to landline. All other aspects of BCE's business are not regulated.

And they are de-regulating landline as we speak. Check your facts, eh? (lrtc, not noelstrom)

Correction: the CRTC is in the process of relaxing pricing regulations for for Bell Canada in certain markets only. ILEC landline service is NOT being deregulated as if it were they would be working under the same environment as CLECs and that simply isn't the case.

Speak the whole truth, not just one version of it, eh?

They are always trying is the key word. Fact is they are still regulated and you pointed out "de-regulating landline as we speak" so they are not completed yet. travisc there are enough anal trolls on the forms and I suggest you check your facts first before you bitch about other people :P

Troll? A gremlin, at best, thank you.

As pointed out, it's the major markets that the de-regulation process is occurring in, with smaller markets to follow as competition takes hold. I think I was closer to the truth than you were with your assertion that the CRTC regulates Bell Mobility's rates higher than Rogers Wireless.

Either way regulations exist and Bell wants more money and control. Can you blame them?

Don't they all want more money and control ?

Rogers would be decent, if they ever decided to cover the northern/western half of Ontario and the northern parts of Quebec like Bell / Telus do.
There's no coverage between Sault Ste. Marie and Manitoba with a few exceptions of Thunder Bay and Kenora.

Internet VOIP regulated for bell and telus:

Internet and line leasing etc.

It applies more then just landlines.

No no, problem is we only have 1 GSM carrier in the entire country now thanks to Robbers buying out Fido ! The CDMA carriers like Bell and Telus are not worthy of my $ due to their bendover policies like : An activated phone can not be reactivated, and you can't use a phone that is not sold by them.. That, and i hate paying the Qualcom tax.

If Telus and Bell would have merged, i can only imagine the rape that Robbers and the new CDMA giant would pull on us.. already my Fido bill has gone up by at least 10$ since the buyout.. argh..

Sir Geoff

@rogers.com

BCE, a.k.a. Bell Canada lost its edge years ago.Bell was the only game in town at that time. Bell service sucks big time.
Bell should be broken up and sold off to other players who would then make major improvements and get rid of the upper management useless fat! Read: old tech types just waiting for their fat pensions!
