Yes, we'd like to think we're headed to a future where your cell-phone works over multiple networks when out of the house, and yet makes calls over your home Wi-Fi router when you're at home (for free, while we're lusting). But as CNET explores, that's not quite happening yet, despite the development of UMA tech. As we mentioned, T-Mobile has been running trials of their UMA service last month, and is gearing up for a broader launch this month.

You'll be able to switch between the T-Mobile network and Wi-Fi, but you won't just be able to use your home router. T-Mobile is still sitting on many of the details (like pricing), but it appears they'll give you a router from a major player (like Linksys or Netgear), through which you'll be able to pay a flat monthly fee to make calls from home. Later on, the carrier wants to give users access to their 7,836 T-Mobile branded hotspots to make calls.
