DATED. PR-Related. November, 1998Using a single wavelength means a backbone provider can send data further down a length of cable than other high-speed techniques, including DWDM, which requires expensive amplification and beam-reconstruction equipment every 40 kilometers or so. SilkRoad said its technology has achieved distances of up to 480 km without amplification. In addition, SilkRoad said it has developed a schema for encoding greater amounts of data-- whether voice, video, or audio-- onto light waves.
