Single Wavelength Fiber-Optics Article
(old news - 11:24AM Thursday Mar 08 2001)
DATED. PR-Related. November, 1998
Using a single wavelength means a backbone provider can send data further down a length of cable than other high-speed techniques, including DWDM, which requires expensive amplification and beam-reconstruction equipment every 40 kilometers or so. SilkRoad said its technology has achieved distances of up to 480 km without amplification. In addition, SilkRoad said it has developed a schema for encoding greater amounts of data-- whether voice, video, or audio-- onto light waves. Single Wavelength Fiber-Optics Article, Nov. 1998
