assumming you have a broadband connection to download it might take a while on dialup a few days weeks years months
same with gmail but 1 gigabyte limit

| Re: I Use It I use it as well. In fact, I have used my ISP's e-mail ever since I signed up for High Speed internet back the late 90's. First it was DSL (Ameritech, I think), and then I switched to cable with AT&T @home, which then became Comcast. When I moved to Wisconsin, I got TWC/RR.
I don't have an issue with it, as I use Thunderbird as my mail client. Before I used to use Outlook (full version, not express), so each time I would change ISP's, I would just modify my settings, and I would keep all my mail.
To me, claims of "you can store unlimited amounts of mail" don't get me excited. I have a 100 GB hard drive, so I can store 100 GB of mail if I wanted to, as its all local. Personally, I like the idea that I can use a local program on my computer to save my mail, rather then have it on the web. Sure, if I am on the road, I don't have access to all my old e-mail, as I don't take my desktop with me. I do have a laptop (for work), but I usually just delete all the junk in my inbox via the web interface, and keep the stuff that I actually want. So, when I get back home, I'll download the e-mail I saved into my local inbox on my desktop.

| my interface has changed for Central/Mid Ohio and the login screen havent been updated to more email addresses but i don't think i'm using the right master account email address. I have two of them and unsure which one is which and too lazy to call in and ask since i don't really use them.
Gmail here plus i pay $34 a year for an email address from a Local ISP www.toast.net email, news groups, anti-virus program, 10 free hours of dial-up if needed and a few other things hell it beats not having to be tied to the ISP and their mergers/buy outs.
The local company has bene around for a long time too. | |

My University has decided that they will transition all student email accounts (current webmail based, with 100meg of space) to Google gmail by next year. Giving students about 6GB of space, plus more features and better access. Not to mention it's much cheaper to let Google handle it than having the IT department do it. My school has about 50,000 students.
Why can't ISPs just let Google handle it? It would be cheaper for everyone and much MUCH more reliable.

| This is a big improvement to what we now have I am not sure, but I believe it's something minuscule like 3 megs, so this is a great improvement. I use Yahoo, MSN, and Google's mail services as well, so I am not hurting for storage. The additional addresses are a bit of overkill if you ask me.

| RR As a former SD Roadrunner customer let me warn you NOT to use ISP based E-mail accounts. I had to move abroad and lost a lot of correspondance because of them. They promised me twice, once over the phone and once face-to-face when I dropped off my cable box (NOT the cable modem, I dropped that off 2 weeks later..I had sold my TV before my flight date) that they had a policy of keeping the pop-account alive for 4 weeks after dropping off the cable modem and cancelling the contract.
Sure enough...as soon as I got to Europe my account was DEAD. I raised hell, had to call intl', they re-activated it for 3 weeks..but 48 hours worth of business Emails were gone.
And they told me that they didnt care what I was promised, and that I had no right to complain since it was my fault...sure..guess I shouldnt have trusted them in the FIRST place and ask a third time, just to make sure....and btw..did I mention I had to pay for the extra 3 weeks of just E-mail?? THE FULL AMOUNT OF $49!!!!!!! And I wasnt even in the country anymore??? Just to get the last stray E-mails that would find their way to the old address??? RR? Never again...I now own my own URL and plan to stay with that service provider for a long time. | |

| RR E-mail While its good for a lot of people that they are improving the e-mail system. Im not sure that they need 10 mail boxes or anyone needs that. Thats a very large family for 1 ISP ACCOUNT. The issue of portability is the biggest concern.
I doubt anyone can deny that GMAIL which allows you to pop3 or use imap4 is the best e-mail service.
What people don't realize though is that RR provides you with Anti virus software for your computer so you don't have to pay for that every year. | |

I, for one, do realize that RR provides anti-virus, and anti-spyware software, as well as parental blocking software, which is part of their service. They provide CA Internet Security Suite 2007, and Pure Sight Parental Control software.
I do not use either.
In an article in PC Magazine, CA's package was rated as one of the lowest, as its modules do not 'play well' with one another.

I keep about 10 email boxes alive and active to use for different things, host mail, contest emails, necessary family, business, one for those friends and relatives that never outgrew the need to send spam, chain emails or religious emails (barf!) and so forth, that way it keeps them separate and less to look through.
I just use incredimale and have all my gmail and rr emails come through incredimale and go into their own folder.
I love the way gmail handles spam and how their filters are so easy to set up.
I would never ever again rely on solely on my one ISP to handle all my email because I have been online many many years and when ISP's go under or sell you off to another ISP company you can loose all of your email and your email account and loose touch with dear relatives and friends. | |
