1 to 2 odds we don't even see 10mbit symmetrical in the U.S. by 2012 in more than 10 percent of American homes.
1 to 50 odds we actually see download speeds of 50mbit by 2012 but upload speeds of about 5 mbit in say 20 percent of homes.
Incalculable odds we see 100mbit in homes by 2012.
Since we're apt to toss out numbers, I got 100 percent odds that lobbyists will be keen to throw around their weight in order to prevent any real broadband development or improvements. All the while, ISPS go backwards in contrast to the world, and install more strict caps.

As far as YOU paying for it . Leet me ask yo is peoel wthout health get sick and don't go to the doctor and misses work and that hurts the economy that's going to cost you a lot more. If they end up so bad the end up in the ER sure then you'll pay REAL big for their health care. $50 doctor visit or $500 ER visit you're paying for one or the other, CHOOSE.

1 day hospital bill $4,9xx with minor exams and a ER visit. BS. In 1994 I had a car wreck was in the hospital for a week had surgery on my leg and the entire bill was 16 grand which included the ambulance service.
Three year ago my son cuts open the bottom of his foot on some broken glass. ER visit which included stiches and return visit 2 weeks later totaled $700. Where in the fuck do you get $5000 grand for "minor" stuff?

| The US does NOT need 'universal health care' what the health care system needs is a series of laws past and enforce that put the doctors in charge of the patient's health and not the health insurance companies. universal health care is another way to improving the health care of people, but not the only way. who know, maybe what i'm proposing would morph into a for of universal health care. | |

| Re: No
Cornelius you are so crazy. Doctors make you wait like a beggar dog in double waiting rooms, because of no compition and total power over you.
We need to put the PATIENTS IN CHARGE not the Doctors - already Doctors are in charge like you are a little baby who needs them to write and order treatments for you.
As an adult I should decide what Meds and what treatment and tests I need.
A doctor told this model friend of mine to get a Colonoscopy for Ulcerative Colits, she refused, and the doctor dumped her, told her to get out of the office for refusing medical advice.
BTW the Doctor runs the Colonoscopy facility, and will make allot of Insurance money doing the coloscopy. So my friend knows what she needs for body and health, not some stupid Doctor.
USA really spoils the doctors, makes them behave exactly like Cops! Both proffetions are unique in ability to talk down at you and you have to take it, the Cop will put you in Jail if you look at him wrong or if he doesn't like your religion etc... Well A DOCTOR will mess up your operation or screw up your health if he feels you did not praise him enough or because you are wrong ethinicity... We can advocaate for our Cars health to a mechanic, but we can never advocate for our own body with a doctor without the doctor getting reven for irritating him with too many inteligent questions. MD's do not like smart patients as they make the MD work too hard, a dumb patient the love, as dumb patients will think the Doctor is GOD even as the Doctor is screwing up.

| Universal health care is a joke. Look at every country that has implemented it and compare their system with our current system. I would rather see 100Mbs broadband speeds and deal with what is sometimes a hassle in terms of health care than have to wait a month to see a doctor that I don't even get to choose. | |

Get it straight, the federal governments job is NOT, I repeat, is NOT to take care of you from the cradle to the grave. | In other news... Another recent report "insists" that I must have a 10,000 square foot house, and a 500% raise by 2012 in order to "stay competitive" in the US workforce. Furthermore, it also "insists" that I must have at least 3 luxury vehicles at my disposal at all times.
Seriously, all these "reports" that come out are a bunch of nonsense. Consumer broadband speeds have nothing to do with anything. The reality is that for businesses, both 100Mbps and GigE speeds are available in most urban or developed areas today. Given that business is what drives the economy, perhaps the report should have been more focused on that. Now I wont argue that business grade 100Mbps (+) connections are cheap ($1000 to $6000 per month), but that cost will surely come down in the next 4 years.
As for consumer connections, I can also argue that this report is baseless. With DOCIS 3.0 rollouts happening as we speak, 100Mbps will be available to large numbers of customers within the next 4 years. There will clearly be large rural areas that will struggle to be served by anything other than dialup, but thats a technical limitation that cant be rectified.
The bottom line is that these "doom and gloom" reports do nothing but stir up the malcontents on this website. The people who really need high capacity connections in the next 4 years will either have them, or they will move to where they are available (assuming that its so necessary for them). -- If history teaches us anything, it teaches that simple-minded appeasement or wishful thinking about our adversaries is folly. -Ronald Reagan-
