MS 'Live' suite finally goes, uh, live...
(old news - 03:45PM Wednesday Jul 11 2007)
tags: business · telco · security · software · Qwest
First publicized a year ago, Qwest today announced that they're now offering Microsoft "Live" services free of charge for Qwest customers. The new additions include a new Live-fueled Qwest start page, Qwest Mail by Windows Live and a free subscription to Microsoft's OneCare security suite.

Onecare has lagged at the tail end of security software rankings, but it is free -- as opposed to the normal $49.95 yearly price tag. Microsoft has tried to sell ISPs on moving away from bundled protection such as McAfee and migrating to OneCare, but so far Qwest has been the only taker.

A FAQ for all the newly available Qwest/Live services is available here. Existing customers interested in getting the new services should head here.

Re: Ok....

The free security suite would be the main draw I guess, if you're not already using something else.

Re: Ok....

That's just it I already have the McAfee security package which is part of my subscription. Now if there is something there that will correct registry problems I might be interested.

Re: Ok....

To fix those problems, you could start by removing McAfee.

And for the record, the Live Mail really is nice. Along with the Windows Live Mail Desktop app, it's the nicest e-mail setup I've had.

I have OneCare

I have been using OneCare for 6 months now. And I have to say it has work very good for me. Is more user friendly (for my wife) than Norton Internet Security and the added features. The only thing I do not like is the backup setup. Is not flexible at all. So I'm not using that option.

Re: I have OneCare

I had Onecare but uninstalled it because the disk defragmenter never finished, the backup feature didn't work and the virus scanner scanned for days at a time before completing the scan. Most of the time I cancelled the scan because I had to shut the computer off. The only features that seemed to work right were the disk cleanup and defender. I'm running Vista Home Premium that has all these features except for the anti virus that I can schedule on my own.
