Poor attempts made to affect elections
(old news - 11:49AM Sunday Nov 12 2006)
tags: Politics · spam
According to a report by FinancialMirror.com, a possible attempt at affecting United States political outcomes through spam was a poorly designed misuse of technology. The spam was discovered by PandaLabs which found that email messages directed to users of online banking services re-directed those who opened the spam to a site criticizing U.S. politics. If the purpose was, as is expected, to affect the outcome of the recent elections, the attacks came too late, since the spam was not sent out until near the close of the election. However, this could be indicative of future trends towards political spamming.

Jumping to a conclusion, aren't you? The news item indicates it was an anti-US msg. Very unlikely to be put out by the current administration. Did you go to the link and read it?

Obviously he didn't read it. It's much easier to to be a brainless democrat kool-aid drinker then to actually take a minute to get the facts straight.

I'm so glad people like you are the fringe minority in the democrat party.

They are not alone.

Well at the risk of turning this into a political smack down, which is not my intent. Both parties have their share of individuals who could use a great deal of moral polishing. That includes those who hold official positions AND those who make up their membership.

RTFA please

If you truly believe that then you have no understanding on how spam has been working over this past year. I deal with a mail server on a regular basis. These people are in it purely for the money.
How they actually get paid is beyond me. My guess is from the ignorant people who actually click on everything presented in front of them on a computer.
The article doesn't mention any specific sides. Its a very short paragraph about how they *believe* the attack was supposed to coincide with the US election. Most likely to either disrupt the election or gain a ton of user information to steal more money and create more zombie machines.
If you read carefully its almost all opinion based. There are no facts substantiating their points of view. The idea of spam deciding the outcome of an election is a far stretch in the first place. You don't vote via e-mail. You vote at a voting precinct, in/at a voting booth. Here in VA we used electronic booths. They are not connected to the internet, so there is the internet is a non-issue.

1 edit
lol. I just put rtfa. I wasn't trying to be nasty lol. And I wasn't concerned really whether you were a dem or a repub. I just wish people would read the articles first.
To be honest I don't know how or why this story even merits being on the front page lol. It was a very very short piece and didn't have any real substantial evidence. The thing is both parties have problems. And both have done very unscrupulous things both past and present. What wasn't shown was evidence linking that any real political figures were even involved in this piece. And its a long shot that they'll ever find anyone to link to these things. That is what happens I suppose when idealism in government is killed.
So no hard feelings
