Patent Pooling Could Reduce LTE CompetitionIf companies will all commit to sharing their secrets

Businesses have gone broke trying to recoup their losses after lengthy court battles over patent violations. Some major companies interested in developing LTE technology are hoping to prevent that problem by combining efforts to create a
patent pool. Nokia, Ericcsson and NEC are among the parties that are willing to commit to sharing their patents.
""The adoption of this initiative will reassure operators of the early widespread adoption of LTE technology throughout the consumer electronics industry," Ericsson's Senior Vice President, General Manager and Chief Technology Officer Håkan Eriksson said in a statement accompanying the announcement."
Suspiciously absent from the pool is
Qualcomm, a company that you would think would be highly interested in avoiding patent problems considering their recent
losses in court resulting from infringements.
