Netflix Streaming Topped 1 Billion Hours in June

I just finished watching the final episode of Battlestar a few weeks ago. Don't know how I didn't know Battlestar existed when it was on the air. But this is what Netflix is really great for.

Netflix users were less interested in streaming movies titles than a year earlier, instead favoring television shows, according to data released Thursday by Nielsen. In a survey completed in April, 47% of users said they were most likely to stream movies, down from 53% a year earlier, while 19% said they preferred television on the service, up from 11%.

Netflix’s contract with Starz lapsed in February, leaving users without access to such popular movies as “Toy Story 3” and “Tron,” and the company last year separated its DVD delivery service from streaming, while raising prices.

A Netflix spokesman said 60% of viewing hours are spent on television shows, compared with 40% for movies.

Funny, I think I've found 10 things on the netflix streaming options that I have any interest in viewing. I suppose if you like indie, ancient, or straight to video movies and tv re-runs it's great. The only thing I've used it for in the past was to catch up on a tv series I wanted to start watching.

There is more stuff on Netflix I'm interested in watching then I will ever have time to see. It's a great bargain when comparing the alternate sites that want to charge $2-3 per TV show episode or $24 for a season in HD.

I'm a big fan of steaming content for a nominal monthly fee. Like the music subscription services, they may not have everything I would like to enjoy, but there is more than enough available to make it worth the cost.

It would have been nice if Netflix had an on demand payment like Amazon does.

Yea for only the occasional show or movie Amazon makes sense but if your want to watch more than two things Netflix is a better value. I think Amazon has that Prime but you pay for a whole year in advance.
