| | | Re: Best deal for $7.99 I have cancelled my cable/dish and have been running solely on Netflix. The final straw came when I got home and my youngest daughter was watching re-runs of one of the Disney shows on Netflix.
There is, for my family, a TON of tv content on there that we have never been able to watch due to our schedule. So this has always worked out for us.

Netflix streaming growth from TV show reruns and not from movies. »blogs.wsj.com/digits/2012/07/12/···to-fall/
Netflix users were less interested in streaming movies titles than a year earlier, instead favoring television shows, according to data released Thursday by Nielsen. In a survey completed in April, 47% of users said they were most likely to stream movies, down from 53% a year earlier, while 19% said they preferred television on the service, up from 11%.
Netflixs contract with Starz lapsed in February, leaving users without access to such popular movies as Toy Story 3 and Tron, and the company last year separated its DVD delivery service from streaming, while raising prices.
A Netflix spokesman said 60% of viewing hours are spent on television shows, compared with 40% for movies.

For movies the studios are making it so hard for Netflix to get content, of course there is no growth. The library for movies actually seems to be shrinking.

It's a great bargain when comparing the alternate sites that want to charge $2-3 per TV show episode or $24 for a season in HD.
I'm a big fan of steaming content for a nominal monthly fee. Like the music subscription services, they may not have everything I would like to enjoy, but there is more than enough available to make it worth the cost.

I suppose if you like indie, ancient, or straight to video movies and tv re-runs it's great. The only thing I've used it for in the past was to catch up on a tv series I wanted to start watching.

That is basically all I use it for 95% of the time. Every once in a while a movie will appear that I will watch, but mostly I use Netflix to watch a TV series. I'll watch a smattering of documentaries or stand-up comedy specials, and those types of shows are about the only thing I will watch that is not in HD.

I was looking at new releases on my PS3.. I checked the Playstation store and vddu.. & Amazon Here is what I don't get.. take the movie The Artist.. Who in their right mind would pay $19.99 for the HD version when the Blu-ray version is the same price and you get all the extras?

These media giants have perfected the process of mass producing media content and distributing their product at an extremely inexpensive cost. Even without packaging, distribution, and stock considerations, streaming might be more expensive to these companies, or at least about the same.
Then there is Netflix, which seems to be able to make a profit at a significantly reduced customer cost. So, who knows.

RenoPremium join:2008-10-26 Keller, TX | caps It's obviously something people want and a good value for the price, yet Internet service providers like at&t will end up killing it with data caps.
I have the 150GB/mo at&t DSL service. It only takes a couple of game purchases off of steam and a week or two of watching a lot of Netflix to go past my CAP.
Which, I can actually burn my CAP in 3 days of 100% usage. That's the thing that burns me up the most. I've had SBC/ATT dsl for 11 years and all of the sudden they place a 150GB cap on it removing > 90% of the service I was paying for at no price reduction.
They should advertise it as "6Mbps *for 3 days, then we want to rape you for more cash"

| | Where Hollywood fails... Where Hollywood fails... They think it's about the delivery avenues they create. It really is only about how we consumers want to consume. Hollywood needs to embrace this axiom. | |

| Hollywood. If Hollywood had their own streaming service for all the latest movies this would be a non-issue for them when Netflix does this then it's called Hollywood jealousy. Don't Netflix pay big bucks to have the movies and so forth? What is it to Hollywood, they are getting paid just like they get paid from the other media outlets. They only shooting themselves in the foot fighting Netflix. I think Netflix should not be bothered with this nonsense of jealousy. | |
|
| | Netflix growth? Didn't netflix just fire a big percent of their workers across the entire company? I don't see how this corresponds to "growth". Netflix is screwed because of the "several billion" they just spent on 3 years worth of streaming rights. | |
