It was always obvious to me that this wasn't going to cause long-term problems for Netflix. They've experienced explosive growth in Canada despite us paying almost the same thing as Americans, but for streaming-only with a smaller catalogue than the US, and we've all been pretty happy with it up here. -- Developer: Tomato/MLPPP, Linux/MLPPP, etc »fixppp.org

| | | | Re: Not I. I agree...Amazon's Prime streaming library is extremely lackluster. I don't even consider it a benefit of my Prime membership.
Listen...Netflix definitely botched how they handled their price increases and the attempt at separating the DVD and streaming businesses. Nonetheless, there has always been a lot of value from the product they offer. I still kept the 3 DVD out at a time and for MY viewing habits, that $24 spent is very well worth it.
Any time I've had an issue (not often), some American picks up the phone and is a pleasure to deal with. Good service, good price...I'm happy to pay.

| of course they are back Netflix is still an incredible entertainment deal. We still have both streaming and 1 DVD and are borderline about keeping the DVD part but still find 1-2 DVD only things a week to watch so far.
What might kill/cut them deeply is changes at the post office.
|
| | | Re: of course they are back An incredible deal if you enjoy streaming lots of B movies, old tv shows, and other titles the studios aren't making revenue off of anymore. The streaming offerings are horrible. Their new show looks interesting, but certainly not enough to warrant the price. | |
|
| | | they came back because Netflix sent out 1 month free membership emails to everyone. - which they do about every 3 months anyway. They are probably counting those people as coming back. | |

(look at the AOL CD bombing, they gained HUGE numbers of customer, unfortunately it was faster then the could build/buy infrastructure, and it COST are $247 per sub, OK if you can get a 10 year customer, horrible if network problems AND tech advances meant most stayed a year or less average. |
| | it was basically free before at $8 a month it was basically free for a slamming service. they were just making us finally pay for it, it was a silly way to do it but i didn't cancel fwiw. | |

| Content Netflix is still a decent deal if you haven't already burned through all the content you're interested in watching.
Reality of it is, if you have Netflix just for streaming online, they have a limited selection of (good) content. I for one am a fan of documentaries, and Netflix very rarely adds any new documentaries to their collection. Notice I said *new* documentaries. They add old ones all the time... but I'm not interested in watching a documentary that was made in the mid 1990's.

| | Left when they throttled us. I left before streaming because I was laid off at the time and they throttled us badly. Before, I could drop a movie in the mailbox Sunday night and have a new one Tuesday, drop it Wednesday and have a new one Friday. They then went from Sunday drop off to not getting it until Friday, so I didn't get a new one until the next Monday. And when confronted they claimed they can't control the Post Office, yet when I then put it on hold and dropped the disc Sunday night they registered receiving it Monday at 5:30AM, 10 hours later. After they got it I cancelled and won't go back, not with that treatment. | |

| | Outrage Over Pricing Still Affecting Netflix After last summer's blunder by netflix, the attempt to divide their streaming and DVD service while raising subscription costs, is still affecting the one time beloved service.
Since that time, netflix reports that only a mere third of previous users have returned to the service.
Not only that, the dive in the trading price of Netflix's stock (NFLX) has yet to mount any significant recovery.
It is readily apparent that the majority of scorned netflix users, including this author, maintain negative feelings and that the result is the rise of other competitive streaming and DVD by mail services.

I ran out of streaming to watch, so I turned DVDs back on and got caught up on the OK/meh movies. And I just turned DVDs off again. Streaming might get turned off eventually. Very little left to watch that I would want to watch.
Netflix got a few hundred dollars out of me, but it can't last forever. They don't make enough new movies. Even if you include foreign movies.
Yes, I remember Quickster. They were right to react to our whining and crying. We have their money and they can't have it unless we want to give it to them.

Everyone is different, but my family and I still haven't run out of things to watch because there are plenty of tv series that we never watched in the first place. Now we get to watch them and catch up with previous missed episodes of series we currently enjoy. How many dvd's can you get from Redbox for $8.47? Well between the four of us we watch that much every week from Netflix.
|
| | Netflix is right The problem is not netflix but the content providers that always seem to single then out. Look we all know big studios don't want to see their new hits on netflix until they have milked their product dry and even then they expect netflix to pay a premium fee. In the end this will bring the downfall of many of those big studios since they can't seem to remember the old motto "alienate your consumer you will find yourself out of business pretty soon" | |
|
| | Probably never going back Probably never going back. Was faithfully with them for several years and thought their initial streaming implementation was something like "the next best thing since sliced bread" and that transport would be the immediate future for almost all content. Yep, but they lost me last summer, and maybe it appears that some have gone back, although maybe their user rise reports could probably be more because of all computer phones and massage pad fans. If they had some Bluray "3D"...then just maybe. Disk media is near the end anyways. Good luck Netflix. | |

Thousands upon thousands of stuff to watch and it beats paying $60 per month for cable/sat tv any day.
My biggest complaint is lack of newer content, but I honestly don't care as what's 'new' to me could be 2 or 3 years old in today's media. I enjoy watching a lot of older shows/movies anyway.
I only have the instant streaming plan at this time. If it comes down to it, I'll opt for the DVD/blu-ray disc plan sometime later down the road.
Netflix is still a great deal no matter how you slice it, at least compared to the cable/satellite giants (unless sports tv is your thing).
That and the service is so versatile. You can use it on just about any modern device today. -- CableOne 10m/1m
