| Re: NJ Read today's Star Ledger. Verizon has filed franchise apps for 5 towns: Demarest, Park Ridge, Passaic, Hightstown and Red Bank. They also are adding about 21 more towns for Fios wiring.
Funny how they still haven't announced an Essex County town yet.

| In January? Considering this is only PSC approval to negotiate a franchise, Verizon seems awful confident. Negotiating a new franchise normally takes a lot more than six weeks, especially considering that Verizon apparently has yet to negotiate several major clauses of the franchise (line extension standards probably being the big one with Verizon's practices so far). -- ISCABBS - the oldest and largest BBS on the Internet telnet://whip.isca.uiowa.edu Member: American Association of Geographers, American Geophysical Union, American Water Resources Association | |

This is big because now other towns can use this agreement as a template. Which means Cablevision,comcast & time warner have nothing to litigate and complain about. Part of the hold up in this agreement was cv suing, complaining, etc. Now things can move a lot faster in other areas where they have been negotiation for a long time. They have a better idea of what will work in NY state and what won't. Won't be surprise to see a flurry of franchises being approved in the next 3-4 months.

| PSC is the state level authority though. What about the local level authority? Or has Verizon already informally negotiated the agreement at the local level? Or does NY do it opposite, the local franchise is negotiated first then the state PSC/PUC approves the agreement then there is a local vote? Normally the state PSC/PUC gives approval for a local vote which then gives the local authority permission to negotiate. -- ISCABBS - the oldest and largest BBS on the Internet telnet://whip.isca.uiowa.edu Member: American Association of Geographers, American Geophysical Union, American Water Resources Association | |

| 010106 Well, well, see, the kind of NY competition, take off the glove and slap each other's face with them, vs mike tyson ear biting, poo poo.
Verizon has YET to answer the 15/2, 30/2 package plans, lower feature rich POTS plans, OR offer a comeptitive triple play. that's 0 for 3 in my book.

@rr.com
| Re: 010106 Why would they need to answer them if those packages are still Verizon's best packages. I'm sure wherever 30/2 ($59.99)is available 30/5 costs $54.99. 15/2 by Verizon is 49.99$ or $44.99 if you have a 1 year contract, which is a good deal because you know what you get with FIOS. When you download at that full speed 30mbit half of your 2mbit upload becomes useless anyway. why would anyone need 30 mbit if its only 2 up when you can save $120-180 a year with the same ul and half th dl. besides optimum online's downloads are barely ever fully achieved. Vetizon provisions so that it includes a little more so you feel tcp/ip overhead less. The question is when will Verizon be answered. | |

| Re: 010106 Dunno, for new customers its $44.90 for 1 year (30/2) so I think verizon should be worried abit if that's the case, as 15/2 is $45 now, and if 30/2 for new customers for 1 year is the deal, well, why wouldn't that tempt converts?
Also, even if you look at the FIOS product, its a hard sell if you don't bundle it with some kind of POTS service, Verizon in many cases won't even want to waste their time installing the ONT, as it does take 2-6 work hours to wire a $1000+ ONT to your home. All I'm saying is, that this will lead to customer churn at some point, or at least stop people from running away from OOl to fios, if the speeds are better, for less.. in triple-play package or double play its $30 per service, and verizon still can't touch those numbers PERIOD, or rather has distinctly REFUSED to play the game of lowering the price to compete, that's the last thing they want, ( take in less revenue ). Can't see how thats gonna keep customers happy, fiber or not, if cablemodems are running closer to fios speeds for the same price range (in some cases arguably less or more than a comparable fios product)
