| Re: Huh? Some stations are already in range of a signal in some spots. Sounds like a huge amount of money for coverage just in stations, not on moving trains. And the major carriers have to partner with Transit Wireless to get coverage for their subscribers. Is this really needed? -- Rick | |

Or since most national carriers have no-roaming plans, that means we just wont have service in the subway.

| Awesome! Now every jerkoff will be on the train with their notebooks on their laps IM'ing away. Dirty stares will be common for stealing their seat during rush hour.
Seriously.. This is a cool move. We're finally gonna have something as advanced as Japan, stipulating that there is coverage.

Anyone feel a problem with this I doubt that current Wireless Standards will be in use at least on a major scale 10 years from now with the rate networking equipment is being expanded. 10 Years ago we were still running Dial Up and Laptops didn't start having network cards standard for a bit after that. -- Ricky Smith

Again, please read the article. This is related to cellular networks. You know, GSM and CDMA? Those will still be in place for well more than 10 years. Even the data supported by these technologies will be easily upgradeable with a simply hardware switch if necessary. -- я люблю Денди!

| Re: Uhhhh said by wifi4milez :People PLEASE do some research here!!!! You are talking about TDMA, not CDMA! CDMA is what both Verizon and Sprint use, and it is the largest deployed network in the US. Why should we "people" need to do this "research" of which you speak, when "we" have you? Sorry to have been the source of some disappointment. But now you've spelled it out and "we" all now know the difference, without having had to do the research - so, thanks! -- That was preposterous! Utter Nonsense! Totally unsupportable drivel! | $40? Hehe. Its interesting to see how much Verizon and Sprint think the business of wireless in the subway is first. Seriously, 40 bucks? Thats not an offer, thats more like ordering a few pizzas for the New York City Transit. They should have offered at least 80 bucks. | |

| Service Provider? Of course my question is why any of them have to pay the MTA anything at all. The providers are paying for the infrastructure and the upkeep. It sounds like a tribute payment to the MTA for nothing more than the right to run the wires you are already paying for. I would be interested to see who the first provider will be to sign up with Transit Wireless. If none of the major providers want to sign up then it could be some very expensive dead air underground or the roaming charges to the major carriers will be horrendous. -- I support the right to keep and arm bears. | |

| Re: Service Provider? Uh, maybe for the right for Transit Wireless to do business within MTA's premises? Sort of the same way all major carriers are paying an increasing number of building owners around the city to install communications equipment atop tall residential buildings? | |

| One less place to end a call by saying "I'm losing signal.." Great. More places for people to user their Blackberries. Fan-freakin-tastic.
As for laptops, people are going to expect their wireless broadband connections to work once this is in place, since they do run off the cellular networks. So yeah, some people will be pounding away on their laptops on the platforms.
I can understand needing to - grab or send that presentation you forgot, shoot off that email, or if you get that "we're going be stuck in the tunnel for a long time" feeling, to download some music or videos to pass the time. I can't say I understand why you would want to just surf in one of the most public places there are.
In-station news reports with web cam feeds might be come popular though. -- Only now do you realize the depth of my insanity...
