| AOL made a billing error. Being a former employee, usage is capped at $35 a month if you go over your limited dial up or broadband USING THE AOL SOFTWARE method.
$4.95 still allows you to go to the AOL website and check email and do whatever you want without incurring charges.
This was a billing error on AOL's part. The guy was dumb enough to not listen to the disclosure given that does state YOU GET 3 ONLINE HOURS WITH THE AOL SOFTWARE PER MONTH. That isn't AOL's fault. That's the guy's fault.
AOL's fault is charging that high of a bill instead of capping it at $35.

| quote: I can definitely believe a sales rep would do that, considering how much of a pain it is to cancel an account with AOL.
Hard to cancel? Add to that the fact that AOL doesn't actually read their postal mail!
A few years back, AOL refused to cancel my account after faxing them so I sent AOL a notarized and sealed letter that included a photo copy of my driver's license, signature, address, notary signature, phone number, email address, AOL account login and password along with a former order to cancel my account and was all of that was served on AOL by registered service agent.
Why do I mention all that was in the letter?
Because AOL sent back a generic form letter saying they could not cancel my account claiming they needed my phone number which ironically was printed several times in the cancel letter and was even on the original fax! Proof they never actually read any of my letters!
I served them another duplicate copy of the previous letter but this time co-signed under court seal directly ordering them to terminate the account. Did that work? Nope ....
Again I get a generic form letter saying that they need some information that was actually included on both letters.
Meanwhile, AOL continued charging my credit card for another two months beyond my original cancellation letter while they continued to play this ping pong game of not reading their mail and sending out bogus excuse letters for not cancelling the account that aren't even consistent with the details at hand.
I finally just gave up on the bozos and filed formal fraud charges against AOL and not only got back the extra two months AOL wrongfully charged me during all this but also every single payment I ever made to AOL all the way back 3 years plus AOL got slapped with a very steep penalty.
That was years ago though, you would have thought that they would have learned from their mistakes and changed by now.

i.e. I have 6.95 unlimited broadband BYOA with three dial-up hours. Then 2.95 for each additional hour over the included 3 up to a _maximum_ of 35.00 per month in hourly charges.
Seems like AOL was trying to pull a fast one on this guy.

| Another AOLhell CSR Mis-INFORMATION I bet this CSR gets their monthly saves bonus all the time, or very seldom. This guy was probably told that his bill would only be the $4.95 limited plan, and that he does not have to loose his email. But the fact that this plan is pay per connection charge did not get mentioned.
These CSR's will lie, cheat, steal and say almost anything to confuse people not to close this crap service. This is why most of the State-side call centers have shut down; so they can pay less to India, and when you get lied to, well guess what, tough shit.
I hope this company gets pulled under so far they won't be able to see daylight. What a bunch of jackasses.

| Reminds me of the good ole days. This reminded me of the good ole days back in the early 90's. AOL would charge you 20 bucks for a dail up connection. I think the 20 bucks allowed you to have 10 hours of online time. Then anything over that you got billed for. needless to say, I had many months of 100.00 bucks plus bills to AOL. I managed to find a local ISP dail up service that did something out of the normal back then. For 20 bucks a month they allowed you unlimited access to the net. Granted the speeds weren't that great and it was hard connecting, but hey it was a deal, back then.
