Ever feel like cell carriers and ISPs don't like you?

Oh hell, yes, I was just saying so a couple days ago. For the most part, they just want the money, don't expect them to talk to you or even deliver the promised service.

Does your cell phone calls go thru 99.9% of the time? So I guess they deliver the product they promised.

As a matter of fact, no it's not even close to that number. I'm very familiar with the Nextel PTT failure tone, and all-circuits-busy tones and messages for regular calls.

Then switch providers.

Virgin Mobile - always 4 bars and calls always go through(piggybacks on Sprint PCS).

AT&T Wireless - *SO FAR*, 2 bars or more + EDGE always displayed and calls go through - plus Yahoo email notifications work flawlessly.

Mine work.
YMMV

Businesses: British broadband not fast enough

Is it ever fast enough?

To me, there's no such thing as Internet that's too fast. There's only such a thing as too pricey.

'Public' online spaces don't carry speech, rights

"'Public' online spaces don't carry speech, rights"

That's the dumbest article I have ever read. People are free to start their own websites in order to practice free speech. There ARE no "Public" spaces on the net, it's all privately run.
Don't like it? Start your own website.

Could not agree more. Actually calling for government regulation of the Internet?

And all the reference to first amendment rights is ludicrous - they do not apply at all in regards to private entities.

the first amendment does hold up online from being charged by the police. however Yahoo for example is liable for suit if someone thinks that something a user posted shouldnt be in public view. partly due to the laws against slander are different between me saying someone is and asshole and a corporation allowing their site to show someone is an asshole.

Re: 'Public' online spaces don't carry speech, rights

Yeah, but Yahoo can also take down anything that is on their servers, for whatever reason they want.
People cry that their freedom of speech is being violated, but when they're posting on someone elses property they have no such right. If they post on their own website, then they have the right to freedom of speech without anyone shutting them down or censoring them.
See westboro baptist church website, or jewwatch for examples of the right of freedom of speech as it applies to the internet. They can't come on here and say the things they say on their site, but they're allowed to do so on their own sites.
