Newegg, get outta Cali

We don't want taxes either. Look at Amazon, no offices, no taxes. Plus the cost will be cheaper to rent spaces in Nevada or some other crummy state.

Re: Newegg, get outta Cali

Newegg isn't playing chicken, Newegg made all of their affilates gree to terms where they can't promote directly to NY residents.

If they do they remove them, that is what amazon and all the other merchants who are charging tax needs to do. Newegg just read the law and everyone else just skimmed it and assumed they had to collect tax.

RE: Newegg plays chicken with New York 'Amazon Tax'

It is about time someone called the bluff of NYS Attorney General Cuomo and Governor Patterson and make them defend their money grab in court. Cuomo does a lot of law by press release. Let's see if he has the bones to backup his big mouth in court.

Re: RE: Newegg plays chicken with New York 'Amazon Tax'

We disagree on a lot, but on this issue I'm in complete agreement with you. I'm a NY resident and this isn't the first time that the state government has tried to reach their tentacles into others' pockets to get more money. They've tried to claim that a telecommuter owes NY state taxes if that telecommuter lives outside of NY, but works for a NY-based company.

This Amazon Tax is complete bunk. NewEgg affiliates are not sales representatives nor are they staff of any kind. Just because an affiliate happens to live in NY, doesn't cause the company to have a physical location point in NY. It's a money grab, pure and simple and it will hopefully get struck down swiftly in the courts.

on top of that for NYS to sue Newegg they would risk their law coming under the microscope of a federal court.
