I am a bit surprised at your concern over this "Possibly" being paid out of Taxpayer money...

I wouldn't count on that if I were you. The test roll outs so far have all been dismal failures because of inteference issues, among other things. Seems none of the equipment suppliers so far are capable of providing equipment that meets FCC guidelines for incidental radiators. Bottom line: BPL's radiated interference is going to be it's death knell. It simply cannot and will not be tolerated in the end.
On top of this, Congress is starting to climb the FCC's ass about BPL, and, since Michael powell is gone, the new FCC chairman is apparently amenable to rectifying the FCC's mistake.

And I found this little FUD gem in the press release:
"Performance of BPL is similar to that of cable modem, but unlike cable offers the same speeds both upstream and downstream."
Cable can offer the same speed in both directions. Most cable companies just keep the upload at a lower speed to discourage servers and save on costly bandwidth charges. I would bet that the BPL provider will eventually do the same. | |
