Municipal Wi-Fi in Texas cities
(old news - 02:12PM Saturday Sep 15 2007)
tags: business · wireless · municipal · RedMoon Broadband
RedMoon Broadband has been in the municipal Wi-Fi game for years. In fact, they launched the first Wi-Fi city in Texas in 2005. But then the big guys came in last year and outbid them and things have been kind of quiet on their front ever since. Now that EarthLink has disappointed Texas users in Houston, RedMoon might have a chance for revival. The provider has just contracted with Southlake, Texas to set up a small municipal security video system. It’s a small step, but it's a step in the right direction if the company wants to get back in the municipal Wi-Fi game. Of course, Texas city consumers may have to deal with the company’s Fair Eagle ad system, especially since ad-support is a big part of working muni Wi-Fi systems.

Good luck to them...

their tech specs are in the privacy policy, but no expected speeds are listed. The network is " Our Networks are designed for wi-fi in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz spectrum, 4.9 GHz spectrum for public safety and integrates 5Ghz mesh for backhaul.

RedMoon networks are high performance, scalable networks that can support the growing demand for high bandwidth applications such as business connectivity, video surveillance, emergency response communications and voice-over-IP (VOIP) services. The network design allows a city, campus or county to start small and grow overtime."

They also have a pic of LA, why, i don't know. I doubt they'll last!

Maybe they'll reach Texarkana.
