Their build-out and uptake rate would embarrass even Verizon's FiOS project.

Because the price is too high.
The public wants 10M, 20M, maybe even 50M.
But they don't want to pay $70 for it. They don't care about 1Gbps.

Verizon has proven that - only 1/3 of their customers will pay $50+ for Fios internet.

Google's TV package is lacking key features. Forcing customers to pay the $70 fiber premium to get it is insulting.

Haha!
This is a great deal from Google; it is soooo funny that you've flipped against a business and are trying to take Google to task for being too expensive! Very entertaining!

I would say that what Google offers is much better than TWC for sure. Google's shortcomings will be addressed, but TWC has yet to address their problems. Anyway, interesting!

"Much better", but not cheaper, which is what counts for the majority of subscribers. Again, look at the VZ data - they can't achieve more than 33% uptake for their "cherry-picked" "much better" service.

Google's TV package is not "better", and is very much overpriced, and the local MSO(s) will respond long enough to counter them.

I guess you could say I'm 'officially' boycotting Apple. No products, no services, nothing. No iTunes, no hardware.

I agree. I hope Apple's LTE devices get tit for tat banned.

It's obvious Apple feel it can't compete in the marketplace so they decided to get the competition banned. Sorry Apple won't work. I'd sooner go back to a flip phone than buy one of your products. of course the Apple fanbois are thrilled since they seem to think EVERYONE must use Apple products and they are the best and if you won't switch voluntarily they FORCE you to do it and in the end it'll be ok because after you're forced you'll see how awesome Apple is so it'll be ok then.

I generally don't this sort of thing, but Apple is apprantly going to patent bully until it's the only company around.

At this point, your helping a company like that obtain a monopoly.

I still think there is a good shot of this verdict being thrown out. The jury foreman saying outright that he didn't follow the judge's instructions gives Samsung a good shot of winning on appeal. Also don't forget that the judge did not allow for Samsung to show any claims of prior art. Why wasn't Samsung allowed to defend itself?

Me personally, I'm neutral in this case. I just think it is disturbing that our patent system is so messed up that anyone can literally patent anything that does or doesn't exist, and things like being novel or not having prior art don't seem to matter anymore.

That describes the civil juries I've been on. The docile, friendly centrist guy gets himself nominated foreman before he shows his passive-aggressive nature and the jury-instructions are completely ignored. Juries do what they want to do.

In the Samsung case, the foreman is a (bitter?) patent-holder, able to serve as the insider expert witness and coach for the rest of the jury. Bias much?

I don't put it past Samsung or any other Asian firm to literally copy, counterfeit, beg, borrow or steal others' work. We've seen enough over the years to understand that those business cultures allow for it (as does ours, in some instances).

But it mystifies me how a rectangle with rounded edges, or a finger swipe on a *touchscreen* are considered patentable innovation.

Samsung has plenty of grounds for appeal, but what are the odds all of the appellate justices use iPhones?

it really should not matter. Jury foreman can be corrupt but this guy went and hung himself by saying, among other things, that he disobeyed jury duty by saying they were going to punish samsung.

Its like a guy who disobeys the law bragging about it on twitter. You could've gotten away with it, now everyone knows the jury is corrupt.

I've never liked Apple for over priced yuppie junk and beating up Samsung hasn't made me respect them any more either.

Not that I am in love with Samsung or any other company (don't own any Samsung stuff at the moment), but this patent crap is getting to piss me off as much as the usual RIAA MPAA insanity does.

Rounded corners? really, is that the limit of Apple's ability to inovate? If so they have jumped the shark and their days are numbered regardless of this years sales numbers.

Once a company looks like they have jumped the shark it's over.

I first I disagreed with people about this. Apple WAS the innovator in getting the touchscreen phone revolution rolling but just because you build the first car doesn't mean you get to ban everything with a steering wheel.

You have the head start...you go build the next better car and by the time everyone has copied that...which they will, you are well on your way to the next car.

THAT is innovation, not suing everyone else so that you can stop innovating.

I don't want to piss off the Mac users but they are made for two things, graphics witch most of us know and fanboys, that last one is what I feel has been keeping them afloat but maybe now that the market is saturated with smartphones here comes the string pulling. If you asked a lay person 15 plus years ago about a Apple product I bet all you would get for a answer is a stumped look.

That is a matter of opinion. As a daily user of both Windows 7 and OS X, the only things I have found Win 7 "better" for are games and 3D HTPC. For everything else I find OS X a bit better in terms of workflow but that will vary greatly from user to user.

One thing I will say is that it is my opinion that Apple nore the Courts should have any right to prevent Samsung from selling its devices. force them to resolve maybe but the only thing a sales ban does is stifle consumer choice and consumer choice should always be paramount to all because the people are more important than look and feel patents always.

Re: Apple now wants the Galaxy S3 and 10.1 Note banned

Apple shouldn't but the courts absolutely should as that is the only remedy. Intellectual property rights must be paramount, otherwise consumers wind up no choice or mediocre products because companies won't invest in the R&D if they know it will just get knocked off the next day and will lack the revenues to pay back their investment.

That isn't to say that vague idea's should be patentable but merely that customer's won't have a choice if no one spends billions, takes the risks and makes the stuff in the first place.

What needs to happen is the verdict set aside and a new trial where the jury gets to actually see all of the evidence including the prior art evidence. THEN with all of the evidence if they say Sammy copied, Sammy is busted, if they don't, they don't but at least you know it was a FAIR trial.

Who needs a holiday when you spend your days fighting fires in full gear in 100 degree heat, fishing people out of a stuck elevators, going to another state to help restore electricity in Louisiana, subduing a shotgun wielding student, working a desk at the always boring hurricane center, getting chewed on, babysitting some pesky astronauts or getting shot at? Being in a civil service job is a holiday it itself.

Holidays do not exist for most of this country. Most retail workers will not have it off... And before anybody states those workers should find a better job... Just think some of those same people would be here ranting if all the shops closed on labor day with things like "WTF I needed a light switch and home depot was closed on a holiday."

I actually bought Guild Wars 2 (I don't normally play MMOs)

I am not a gamer as the word is normally employed. My computers are not gamer rigs, they are computers.

So I might not have the most tricked out rig I guess.

But a buddy of mine (who is most assuredly not using his computer for anything other than games), and is something of an active gamer ie he plays almost everything on launch, gave me some very favourable comments about Guild Wars 2 that even got me to be amused.

No this is not a game speil, so I am not going to gush on about the game. If a non MMO type can't get you curious by his own willingness to play it nothing else will.

But it appears several cliche design aspects of ordinary MMOs have been dropped. The most notable, no monthly fee, they get what they get on game sale and leave it at that. I was cool with that.

Several processes of the usual experience of playing the game appealled to me as well. Never liked how 'missions' were commonly handled in other MMO designs I have seen.

I thought the creation process of my character was nice. Appealled to the paper n pencil role gamer in me.

Anyway, if you ARE a typical MMO fan, and you have not given this one a look yet, it might be worth your time. Hey it cost me two good models I'd have liked just as much

If your phone does more than make audio calls, chances are you have no right calling tablet owners stupid that's for sure.

Don't need text, don't need a camera, sure don't need games on it and certainly don't need it to play videos. Come on, it's a friggin phone.

If you need to play games and videos and go online, be honest to yourself and get a tablet at least.

You won't get unlimited data from Straight Talk. You get warning phone calls and messages if you use more than 2-3GB (various forum posts say about 100MB/day). Streaming video is also expressly prohibited by their acceptable use policy.

If you ignore them, they "delist" your phone and won't renew your service.

I see (black) bears every week. Most of us around here do.

I have so many bears here that I have to keep an umbrella out on my deck to scare them away with.

Although where you are, I'm thinking you're more likely to see a grizzly?

I'm glad we don't have those here... they wouldn't be afraid of an umbrella...

Labor Day Weekend gas prices highest ever in US

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline hit $3.80 on Monday, up 14 cents from the same time last year, the highest price ever recorded during a Labor Day weekend, GasBuddy.com reports.

On Friday, the average price of gas was $3.83 per gallon, according to AAA. Monday’s price of $3.80 beat the Labor Day record of $3.68 set in 2008, the association reported.

Average gas prices grew by nearly 31 cents a gallon in August and have risen 11 cents since August 22

According to GasBuddy.com, the lowest gas prices could be found in Colorado, New Mexico and South Carolina, which average about $3.50 a gallon, while Hawaii, Illinois and California offer the highest prices, at more than $4 a gallon.

I paid $3.66/gal a week ago in NJ. Glad I have a hybrid getting 36MPG. The SUVs getting 15 MPG have to be hurting.

Re: Labor Day Weekend gas prices highest ever in US

Ya, it's about $3.59/gal here in Billings. I think the cheapest is Town Pump which is $3.55/gal for mid.

the speculators always raise prices for the holidays. This year they got to blame it on a hurricane knowing that even after it blows through they can ride the high gas prices not only through the last big road trip holiday of the summer but also through the long distance trekking of bringing kids back to college.

They will excuse another price increase for the Thanksgiving-Christmas run too. Naturally like all fuel increases, the speculation is absolutely independent from actual demand or even projected demand.
