| Re: For the challenge The router I received from them cost more than 20$ from a normal store. It is the wrt54gs v4 router. The new FON router will let people connect on one side of the router as a FON network and another side of the router as a normal wireless home router. Quite neat but i am happy with my 1$ FON router shipping included.

| Received new style router, using it offline for localnetwork Opened the shipping box, was pleasantly surprised by the very small form factor. A little bigger than a pack of cigarettes.
Pulled my ethernet cable out of my laptop, inserted Fon cable to laptop and La Fonera. Typed http: //fon.com into my browser, while completely offline from the internet.
La Fonera gave me a page from the guts of the router itself. Logged in with user:admin pass:admin as per the default settings. Nice little setup page they got there!
Changed the DHCP setting to disabled, turned on static IP, bit-mask of 255.255.255.0, then set the gateway to the same IP as the router itself, and the DNS to itself also. Set the router IP to be a 192.168.x.x address.
Lost connection to the router once I saved the settings because the router IP was changed to the number I gave it.
Went back in and changed the private wifi settings to 'open' instead of encrypted, changed the name of the router to something else instead of the Fon default "MyPlace" because I didn't want some SMART-A55 to attack it. (Wonder how many people still have user:admin and pass:admin set on their router ever since it came out of the box?
Still haven't connected it to the net yet, too much to study to see what's going on with it. Maybe it will just be a local network test until tomorrow. | |
