I would rather there be a feature on the phone that tells the phone to connect to the lowest price carrier all the time, automatically without delaying the call would be nice.
Otherwise 911 emergency calls should go through on any carrier without delay, if it does delay scrap the phone.

| What if the price goes lower in the middle of your call? They should have it so carriers compete for each voice packet. And maybe we can also have Internet transport carriers bid on your IP traffic traveling across the Internet after it leaves your ISP. Each transport provider can bid on each bit individually and you'll get the best price that millisecond. Of course, Google will be the company to manage it all. I'm not sure what they'll call the service but it will be in perpetual beta. | |

| Billing? An interesting concept, but on the practical side, what about billing?
Could one be getting a bill for a couple of phone calls from Verizon, some cell data from AT&T, and computer internet access from Sprint. That should be really interesting.
It seems hard enough, at times, to keep track of one carrier's billing, let alone, the possibility of several different carriers billing one.

There used to be companies who did this on the wireline side. They would take care of billing you and would add in either a flat monthly fee, or a small percentage of the per minute fee for the service.
I doubt Google wants to get into that business though. -- Linux Haters Unite!

| Really stupid idea. So easy to exploit. Create artificial scarcity and ramp up the price. This is what Enron did to California during it's "Energy Crisis". The parallels are there - both electricity and cell calls can't be stored in any large amount so a spot pricing market is open to abuse. | |
