Google Galaxy Nexus Will Arrive Next Month Latest and Greatest Android Device Looms Last month Google unveiled the latest version of their Android operating system (4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich), which featured a laundry list of GUI and other improvements long awaited by the Android faithful. The company also unveiled the first smartphone that will be fully utilizing it: the Galaxy Nexus, which sports a 4.65" Contour Display, dual-core 1.2ghz processor while supporting either LTE or HSPA+ wireless broadband technology. There had been some muddiness in terms of an actual launch date, but Business Insider has gotten Samsung to confirm that the device will be arriving sometime next month. Reviews have been flooding forth this week, and aside from a volume bug (which Google says they've already got a fix for), they've been largely positive.

If you look at the specifications between the cheapest & newest phones, it ain't that wide of a difference to justify 8-20x the pricetag. | |

$50-150 previous phones? What are you talking about? Phones are only that cheap when they are on a 2 year contract. When I bought my original Nexus it was $500+ directly from Google. | |

iPhone4S prices range from $649-$849. Apple is already well on its way. I dunno, China is heavily subsidizing smart phones for it's domestic market (probably for alterior motives-- it is a Communist country afterall). The US government isn't big on bailouts of any industry other than OIL, BANKS, INSURANCE COMPANIES, AND AUTO MAKERS-- those were the winners 2007-2012 hand-picked by Bush/Obama. However, the wireless carriers led by AT&T and Verizon are doing everything they can to duopolize themselves into lower revenues by raising prices resulting in fewer customers (eg, $10+/gb of data). The major carriers have a hand in setting RETAIL no-contract handset prices not even sold through their retail chain. This is one area where the DOJ might start smelling the anti-trust smoke after breaking AT&T's merger into a million little pieces.

The RF on that thing really sucks though from the reviews I've read- in line with other Samsung products. I feel like Google is blind to RF performance because all the Googlers are using T-Mobile in the valley, where there's a T-Mobile site every few blocks and they never have less than 4 bars... | |

For those that want a large screen because they use it constantly for email, web, Remote desktop sessions in IT support or even an occasional movie and we have not been "holding our phone to our ears" for many years (for the bulk of our calls) it is perfect... just like me.
Cracks me up when any flamers come out of the woodwork for products they would never use. It would be like me bitching about flip phone or candy bar phones being to small and technically crippled... wrong... they are perfect for a lot of people.
This phone is the bleeding edge of technology and is reflecting what most people in technology have been asking for... large screen, Android, fast data, face unlock looks to be fast and convenient, NFC is going to be one of the huge techs for today and tomorrow and all on the, did I mention the big screen?
This is the first phone I can imagine having for more than a couple of years unless something "new tech" comes out that I cannot live without.... OK OK, I admit it... that is a possibility, but this phone has it nailed for me and many other IT people (and non-IT people) I have talked with.
