Offering software download for free

Lindows this week announced that that its Linux operating system will now be called Linspire and that a similarly named Web site will be created for consumers who want to purchase the company's products or who need support for previously purchased software. This action came as expected after recent court rulings in Europe. The company acknowledged last week that lawsuits by Microsoft challenging the Lindows name would force its hand in Europe and other foreign markets.

Users in our Software Forum have told us that Linspire has been offered for free. The Linspire v4.5 full product is available for download, free of charge. In this IT Vibe article, CEO Michael Robertson said, the "offer is good for the next couple days". To get Linspire free of charge, simply visit the Linspire order page and add one to your shopping cart. Once there, the coupon code you need to enter is "LINDOWS" then click on Apply Coupon. Apparently the offer is for downloading through Bittorrent only.

Firefox's name was changed because of another sourceforge project named Firebird.

The reason Lindows changed it's name is because Microsoft began to go to each country where Lindows had business and petition courts to prevent Lindows from using that name in that country, since Microsoft was not winning the U.S. court case to get the Lindows name thrown out. Some of these foreign courts specified damages of thousands of dollars per day that the Lindows name remained in effect, so they were forced to generate a name change.

If Lindows were to win the U.S. case, they plan to petition the U.S. State Department to have these court cases nullified or at least have the damages nullified.

It's tough to win at court when your plaintiff has billions of dollars at hand.

If you were to go to the Linspire site you will see a link to a much better explanation of this than mine.

I have an older 6gig HD in my system, I just set my bios to boot off the 6gig with linspire and my 80gig with windows xp, I do not need no booting software.

I installed Lindows with my XP install and then installed Fedora Core over the Lindows install with GRUB on my /boot. My results on the next boot were:

I installed Lindows with my XP install and then installed Fedora Core over the Lindows install with GRUB on my /boot. My results on the next boot were:

you should (suppose to in most cases) install grub to mbr. i just recently installed fedora on a secondary drive to dual boot with windows.. works wonders.

I thought you supposed to put GRUB in the first sector of the /boot partition? I use the NT bootloader and modify my boot.ini to point to a 512k binary file on the root of my Windows install. Whenever I boot up I get a choice of what OS I want to boot into. One of them is XP and the other one takes me to GRUB where I can select a kernel to load.

Slow isn't the word!
It says I'm behind a firewall [I turned mine off]
And Earthlink doesn't do anything, so it's only downloading at 4kB/s!
I'm going to let it go, but any suggestions as to speed it up?

Go back to the website. Log in..and it should be under your products or something like that. You will see a catalog of the products that you can download.

At least that is how it worked on Lindows.

slowwwwly it downloads

Lindows promo code worked for me and I started the download. Very slow it Bitorrent showing 92 hrs left to go.I'm going to let it go but it probably going to crash on me over night. I don't understand Bitorrent. It's downloading for a bit then it uploads.
