Numbers and stats are nice, broadband is addictive, and you'll never think about going back to dial-up. But where's the CONTENT that will get people to say "crap, I gotta get broadband, dude!"
Yeah, I love my DSL, but I've yet to do something with it(besides saving time, and Spinner) that I couldn't do with dial-up. -- SBC Tech Support

| Hello,
I do not know about you, but broadband has made possible for me to work from home, and transfer huge files back and forth. Here in Atlanta, the Gov is asking businesses to find ways of letting people telecommute, and this is were broadband/DSL will come into play. Plus I have created some of my own content, most will never see. With broadband I can keep my far flung family up to date with what is happening with my tribe with video, and other digital products. And like a couple of years ago, we will probably have another tele- holiday(Thanksgiving/Christmas). My sister-in-law is getting married, and the plan is to web cast the event for those who can not be there. So I say create your own content, and see what other uses you can find for broadband/DSL

| Ahh.... A crapple troll. I dropped cable in favor of DSL and have never looked back. In all likelihood, I never will look back.
With its downtime, unreliable service, expense, and severe restrictions/limitations, the only way I would consider cable is if my only other option were dial-up. With my DSL line, I have rock-solid service, good (intelligent) customer service/support (if needed), a static IP, and no restrictions on what I can do/can't do (read as "run your own servers and have no ports blocked").
Best of all, my DSL company doesn't complain the second I run over some nonsensical "cap". I've never been labeled a "bandwidth hog" and never will-- because unlike cable they know how to run a network and not alienate their customers. -- Cox cable: the hallmark questionable business practices and lousy cable service!

IT IS WRONG!!! I STILL don't have DSL in my neighborhood. Probably never will.
The one tech at Qwest that I talked to said the technology is not availble to wire neighborhoods that are more than 18000 ft from the CO. We all know that it a load of BULL! They could easily drop a RT in my neighborhood and take care of it.

No, really, I do.
I had Verizon DSL then I move to an apartment that wasn't serviceable by VOL, fiber in the loop, so I got Adelphia Powerlink instead.
Now, I'm in my own home, too far away from the cable main trunk to even get cable and too far for DSL. I hate dial up and the way I've been connecting on dial up I think I got a poor line or something cause I can't even get 56K with a brand new V.92 modem (had to buy one)
I think I'm going to have to get Satellite until Verizon does something like improve the technology or drops an RT next to my house. [text was edited by author 2003-09-10 15:53:24]

| When Qwest does eventually wire your neighborhood(they will , don't worry) don't be upset when the speed sucks. It's kinda a Qwest tradition on being the worst DSL telco(as far as bandwidth is concerned) in the country. That was also the time when @Home was only available in the 80906 area code (where I was). I never had a problem with @Home, either. The problem was right there, with a 640/272 line. It was stable, but there was just no bandwidth to do anything practical. Latency was bad and download times were slow. I'm still wondering why Qwest refuses to give at least 1.5mbps as the standard. All the other telcos are doing it, why can't you? -- Fiber Optics is the future of high-speed internet access.
