Not long after the understaffed FCC quickly approved the CenturyTel/Embarq merger, Julius Genachowski was yesterday officially approved as the new head of the FCC. Acting Republican Commissioner Robert McDowell was likewise appointed to a second term. The remaining seats will be filled by Democrat Mignon Clyburn, and Republican Meredith Attwell Baker. In a statement (pdf), interim FCC boss Michael Copps proclaimed he looked forward to working with Genachowski "in tenacious pursuit of a communications policy that truly puts the public interest first."

Re: Yeah right

You're too cynical. I'm just glad the Republicans aren't dictating things in the FCC. It's about time we had some regulation of the endless corporate greed that abounds in Washington.

Re: Yeah right

ya, let's just hope that Julius actually lives up to his resume of being pro Net-Neutrality.

but i'm not sure if there is a big difference between the Repubs or Dems.
because they are both controlled by the same people.

McDowell

This is McDowell's first full term. He was appointed (and confirmed) to serve the remainder of Chairman Powell's term, when he resigned.
