Those crazy "Gen-Y" kids, they love them some broadband, concludes this bit of market analysis from Bolt Media. "70% of online Gen Y's (15-22 year olds) accessed the internet with a broadband connection in Q4, an 11% increase over Q3," the report concludes. Us older folk, well we prefer juice-boosted carrier pigeon.

that would be so awesome!! the BPL technology article is an intresting never one, heard of it. That would almost deplete the idea of wireless because if you could plug into a power outlet that would mean some kind of device could route the whole house with ports lit for internet, making it possible to plug into every room with a ethernet type device. sweet shit. would switch to that if it came around here, just seems like a more reliable technology

don't talk to me about my literature, if i was getting graded on a essay and not spending 2secs typing 115WPM post on a forum I might actually go through and correct my mistakes. save it. HEH

Plueeze, I am 28 and just barely got in on the tale of X. I think the current cut-off is 28 is X for sure. That middle is the grey area.

The concept of "generations" makes no sense unless you are talking about a particular family since people are born continuously in the general population.

broadband

well it has taken long enough but people are actually figuring out that dialup for around 15 a month and a landline phone for 30 to 50 a month = about 65 dollars on average, 90% of people have a cell phone and cable TV so why not can the dialup and home phone seeing how cell phones are better anyway so that stops 65 dollars in spending then you can apply that 65 to cable or dsl and depending on what service you get that will be 35 to 60 a month so the savings are obvious. dialup is a complete waste of time. we are not living in the era of the WOPR computer and wargames and tic tac toe to save the world.

Who cares about Gen X?

Of course those numbers will be higher to a bunch of school students.

What are the numbers for the "Nintendo" generation (8bit) that have the money to purchase their own broadband?

X

The way I see it, if you turned 18 in the 20th century, in the '80s or '90s, you're Gen X. If you didn't turn 18 until the new millennium, you're Gen Y (Millennial Generation.) I'd say The Nintendo Generation is the last half of Gen X--the kids who graduated high school in the '90s. I'm part of this group, and certainly can afford broadband.

Re: X

So I'm in Gen Y. Yay

The always connected always on generation . Bring on the Fiber

I dont consider the true broadband era to have started until I get my HDTV music videos and everything else video over my net connection, and that while doing gaming and a download of terabyte files :P

Re: Juice Boosted?

Hey h3ymore, go back to your AOL account:p. Opps. Forgot I think I am older than you. These young kids don't know what what slow really is. How many people here ever purchased a 300 baud modem? Dail up to BBS just to download your software patches? And you had to PAY long distance charges to download that patch?

mondoz See ProfileI miss tradewars.[/user]

You can still play tradewars nowadays. I do it quite often in fact... Just get Synchronet BBS (www.synchro.net), and the latest TW2002 (»www.eisonline.com/TradeWars/). Or, if you don't want a full-fledged BBS, and just want Tradewars, get the TradeWars Game Server (»www.eisonline.com/products/)

TradeWars is still alive and well, you just have to look for it a little bit

OT - 7 years?

Since when s a generation only 7 years long? Are there 7 year olds having babies and populating the world now? Should a generation be at LEAST 18 years?

Re: OT - 7 years?

They are at least 18 years, as I see it. Strauss and Howe, generation scholars, authors of "Millennials Rising" and "The Fourth Turning", say the birth years for the Millennial Generation runs from 1982-2001.

Every article I've read about Gen Y uses different dates. The consensus seems to be anyone born in the 80s or 90s.

Uses.

I'm more interested in knowing what those crazy "Gen-Y" kids use their broadband connections for, in comparison to previous generations.

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but I'd still like to see the results...

Re: generations.

Iam gen X and I have had broadband since about 1997 or 1998 when Cox rolled out @home.I would say most of Gen X fall into the early adopters category.

When you were born

I think it all depends on when you were born. I think I am generation X. I am 25 right now. If your in 30's, 40's, 50's, you might be a baby boomer. there is a list on the internet some where that tells you the years you have to be born in to be in those generations.
